Mangalore, Jun 27: The customs officials at Mangalore International Airport on Thursday June 26 arrested two persons and seized from them foreign currency notes of different countries which they were allegedly trying to smuggle out of the country.

Mohammedaly Abdullah Rahiman from Pallikere, Periya in Kasargod had 18,000 dirhams worth Rs 2.95 lac with him while Abdullah Kundor from the same place was carrying 19,000 Saudi rials worth Rs 3.05 lac.

Muhammedaly was to leave for Sharjah by Jet Airways flight on June 25, while Kundor was scheduled to board Sharjah flight of Air India Express on June 26.

On June 25, Nassir Kappil Abdullah, Abdullah Kunhi, Abdul Gabbar and Khalid Hasainar from Uduma and Hidyatnagar in the district were arrested, and 10,000 US dollars worth Rs 6.01 lac, 1,950 Oman rials worth Rs 3.05 lac, and 1,450 Kuwaiti dinars worth Rs 3.10 lac were confiscated. These four were about to board Air India Express flight to Sharjah on Wednesday.

All the six arrested (in both cases) belong to Kasargod district. All of them were to board flights to Sharjah, and currency notes were found from their hand baggages.

The foreign currency was reportedly being transported to Gulf regions for making payment for gold smuggled into the country.

    munna,
you are so innocent. Don't worry too much about these small issues.
If you want to take cash (I do not know why you don't want to use credit card) then the amount to customs before leaving. Even if you want to take Travelers Cheques (very few buy them nowadays) it should be d too.

Time and again, we hear the news of so much foreign currency is caught and so much gold is confiscated in our 20 international airports. Currency may be going to Govt, but, I heard only about a quarter of gold caught goes to Govt finally. I do not know the modus operandi how the officials pocket three fourth of the booty.
Likewise, very costly Rolex and Omega watches and foreign liquor is
caught in sea ports. In this also what finally Govt gets is minuscule. In Mumbai, duplicate watches are available, dime a dozen. The officials slowly change the original with these duplicate. Where ever numbers are there on watches, you get engravers easily. In the case of foreign liquor the same smugglers or others can get those original stuff. In Crawford market, you get foreign liquor starting Rs 4000. Just walk 100 meters, you can see Police commissioner's office and ask for an agent, he will provide you liquor of any label at quarter of its price. The breakage of bottles while cleaning, stacking and storing is normal. Hence, while taking out the original, just break an empty bottle of foreign liquor, which is available in raddi shop and keep for record.
