Kasargod, Jun 26: A young auto driver was allegedly stabbed to death at Panatthadi here late night on Wednesday June 25.
The deceased has been identified as Arun Lal (22), a resident of Chumundikunnu Pulikkadavu. His companion, auto driver Biju (38) was seriously injured in the incident and has been admitted to a private hospital in Mangalore.
The murdered Arun Lal was a BJP - BMS worker. BJP has called for a bandh in Panathadi panchayat area condemning the incident.
Rajapur station police have registered a case against Jose, a resident of Shivapura and chicken stall owner in connection to the incident.
It is said that Arun, Biju and Jose had gone to participate in a programme at Shivapura on Wednesday night. Source said that after the programme, Arun did not allow Jose to climb into his auto as Jose was drunk.
Angered at this, Jose reportedly followed Arun on a friend's bike, and after grabbing a knife from his chicken stall, waylaid Arun's auto and fatally stabbed him, sources said. He also stabbed Biju who tried to intervene. Though locals came to their rescue hearing their screams and took them to the hospital, Arun breathed his last on the way.
