Bangalore, Jun 25: A massive recruitment of about 16,000 teachers for primary and secondary schools will be done in October after obtaining the necessary approvals from the State Finance Department, according to Karnataka’s Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar.
Replying to Congress member D Thukaram in the State Assembly during question hour on Wednesday, the Minister said 28,000 teachers’ posts have remained vacant in primary and secondary schools in the State.
Services of 16,000 teachers have been hired on temporary basis, he said.
Rathnakar told N A Harris of the Congress that 1,10,794 seats have been reserved under the Right to Education (RTE) in 2014-15 and 95,042 children received admission.
Though 30,893 seats have been made available under the RTE in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike limits, 24,984 children had received admission.
Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande informed the Assembly that a decision would be taken soon on bifurcation of Bangalore University.
In a reply to K Gopalaiah of the JD(S) during the question hour, Deshpande said currently 614 colleges were affiliated with the university.
He said the State has seven private universities and 15 Deemed Universities.
The State Government said the President and the Panchayat Development Officer of the Kagalwadi village in Chamarajanagar district have been suspended following the death of 24-year-old Suresh, a junior engineer who allegedly immolated himself on Monday.
It is said that the rampant corruption in the flagship Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) scheme of the previous UPA government has claimed the life of a young engineer.
Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj H K Patil told former minister Govind M Karjol (BJP) during the zero hour that the GP president and GP PDO have been suspended from the service.
Patil said Suresh, who has been fighting against corruption, was fed up with the corruption in MGNREGA and had refused to create and clear fake bills.
The grama panchayat officials and president were putting pressure on Suresh to clear the fake bills, which was resisted by the offficial, and the latter finally committed suicide by immolating himself, the minister explained.
