Mangalore, Jun 25: In a raid operation here on Wednesday June 25, a team led by Praveen Chandra Karkera, MCC assistant revenue officer, Manjayya Shetty, health officer, Balakrishna Gowda town planning officer and others from MCC razed down all the petty shops located under three flyovers in the city.
The raids were carried out at Kuntikan, Kottara Chowki and Kulur flyovers.
Speaking to the media, Balakrishna said that the petty shop owners were warned a month ago to clear the area, but they refused to move.
"We were getting many complaints from the locals, and hence we visited the spot and saw trash strewn on the ground. There were liquor bottles in the dustbin next to the petty shops. Locals said some of the petty shop owners were consuming alcohol in the day time too," he added.
During the raids, the roads were blocked as curious commuters stopped in the middle of the road to see what was happening.
