Bangalore, Jun 22: Karnataka state government has ordered the cancellation of appointments made to Lalitha Kala, Yakshagana and Beary Sahitya academies.
It may be recalled that following the return of Congress government in Karnataka, it had asked all academy heads to resign from their posts, in order to make fresh appointments to all the academies. The Beary Academy had appealed to the court against the government order, and the court had issued an order to maintain the status quo.
The Karnataka government, ignoring the court order, appointed new heads for the above three academies, but now, to avoid embarrassment from the court again, the government has decided to cancel the new appointments.
According to the law, these three academies are run by self-formulated bylaws, and once appointed, the presidents are eligible to run the academy for three years. Since the three academy presidents had not completed their tenures, the government had no right to dismiss them. Rahim Unchil, who was appointed president of Beary Academy by the then BJP government, had filed a petition in the court urging dismissal of the government order. The Siddu regime, neglecting the court order had appointed Mohammed Haneef as the new president of Beary Academy.
Mohammed Haneef, speaking to daijiworld said that since the matter is in court, the government has ordered the cancellation of the new appointments, but expressed confidence that the court will issue a fresh order to appoint new presidents soon.
