Mangalore, Jun 21: 'I-Shakti', a new revolutionary mobile application (app) for women's safety developed by a group of young engineers called 'Team Visioneers' was launched at Hotel Saffron here on Saturday June 21.

Expert College secretary Usha Prabha Nayak lauched the app along with guests advocate P P Hegde, motivational speaker, author and software engineer Ananth Prabhu, app architect Dheeraj Madi and Sripathi.

Speaking to the media, Usha Prabhu said, "Safety is for everyone, be it men or women. If a bird wants to fly, it needs both the wings. Men and women are like wings - both are equally important to society. If we accept this reality, our society will flourish."

Addressing the gathering, P P Hegde said, "The year 2020 belongs to India; by 2020 youth will rule India. Mangalore is going to become famous. Mangalore is proud of Team Visioneers. Physically women may be weaker than men, but in many other aspects women are in the forefront. This app will help the police to catch criminals more efficiently."

'I-Shakti' is a powerful app wherein a women in distress or in dangerous situation can send her location automatically to one or more select contacts by just vigorously shaking the phone in the moment of crisis.

The app once installed requires the user to add any three contacts who should be alerted at the time of crisis. Once installed, the app runs in the background when GPS is on, and it will be responsive to vigorous shaking of the mobile phone. Though the app is chiefly designed keeping women's safety in mind, it can be used by men too.

Dheeraj Madi welcomed the guests. Ananth Prabhu compered the ceremony. Mementos were given to guests as a token of rememberance. Sripathi proposed the vote of thanks.

Mangalore is already famous for being a Education and Health Hub. It is also famous for its coastline attraction. It is also famous because it is filled youth of both boy and girls of different states for education. It also the only city in the world that has 7 different name - English: Mangalore, Kannada: Mangaluru, Konkani: Kodial, Beary: Maikala, Sanskrit: Manjarun, Malayalam: Mangalapuram and Tutu: Kudla.
