Bantwal, June 20: "As the government has taken interest in the Yetthinahole project and the people are against it saying that it is detrimental to the environment, it is necessary to hold a discussion on the project," said MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
He was speaking during the felicitation programme held for the party workers after visiting different villages of Bantwal in the Vidhana
Sabha constituency. He said that following opposition by farmers and locals for the findings of the Kasturirangan report on the Western Ghats, the union minister of environment has consented to keep the project on hold. He added that he has no objection to the projects that are conducive to nature.
In the process of working towards people's expectations, he said that he will work in stages to develop the constituency. He said that he has suggested the deputy commissioner to fix the pot holes under the rain disaster management project.
"The government which ruled the country for sixty years was unable to win sixty seats in the Lok Sabha elections, but now the party is spreading false propaganda that the union government will be increasing the price of petroleum and reducing the cooking gas cylinders to nine," he said and urged the workers not to pay heed to such rumors.
He said that the meeting should not be restricted to felicitation but the workers should pledge to have Congress free panchayats and a Congress free Bantwal in the local and Vidhana Sabha elections.
