Mumbai, June 20: Kanara Catholic Association, popularly known as KCA has its presence in large cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore and now its presence will be felt in Thane too under the nomenclature of Kanara Catholic Association, Thane – KCA-T for short.
The Kanarites gathered at St John, The Baptist Pavilion, Thane on Sunday June 15 by unanimously adopting a Constitution. The objectives of the Association as spelt out in the Constitution are twofold namely, to serve as a platform to meet and know one another and thereby foster unity among members by organizing socials, picnics and other socially related activities; also to provide a forum for development of talent, not only of members but also of their children by organizing competitions, lectures and self-development programmes.
Membership is open to all adult Catholics in Thane having their origin in the erstwhile South Kanara district. In case of inter-faith or inter-community marriages, one spouse should be eligible, thereby bestowing eligibility on the other spouse and children.
There are 126 registered members as of now. A membership drive has been launched to enlist at least another 500 members by the end of July.
The following have been elected to the Managing Committee: Oliver Colaco as president, Christopher D’Souza as secretary, Ronald Saldanha as treasurer, Vincent D’Souza and D'Silva as committee members and John Tauro, Henry D'Souza and Edward D'Souza as trustees.
