Puttur, Jun 20: The parents of SSLC students in Puttur taluk will start getting regular early morning wake-up calls from teachers from this August. This measure, being taken to increase the pass percentage, is outlined in the ‘Mission 95-plus’ programme which has been implemented in Puttur taluk.

The ‘Mission 95-plus’ programme is a self-motivated initiative of G S Shashidhar, block education officer (BEO), Puttur. The plan is aimed at benefiting slow learners and to increase the pass percentage.

“A team comprising 25 members has been formulated under this programme. The team will work towards enhancing the learning abilities of slow learners. Experienced teachers have been called on to lead the team. These selected teachers will work in six different groups as they have to deal with six subjects,” said Shashidhar.

He said, “After the mid-term, from the month of August, all the government schools serving in the taluk have been instructed to follow the wake-up call programme. I have requested all 72 schools to implement the plan. The headmasters of the schools will assign teachers to take responsibility of five or six students. These students will get calls early in the morning between 4 am and 5 am.”

“Prior to the start of the calling process, the teachers are required to prepare the parents and the children mentally. The department will ensure that the calls do not irritate the parents and their wards. A few schools implemented this idea during the last academic year and got good results,” added Shashidhar.

“A team has been formulated under the direction of the BEO. Six groups work separately on six various subjects, preparing a plan to step up the quality of slow learners in the schools,” Jayashree, team member, mathematics. “We have to prepare lesson plans and portion to be taught each month. Every month, question and answer formats will be sent to the schools to help the students,” she added.

“The format of the questions will be drafted considering the IQ of slow learners. The set format will help the students to cope with the subjects in a better way. However, the wake-up call will encourage the parents to get their children to the study table. A few schools have succeeded due to this new venture,” said Jayashree.

Good practice, may help in future.Mostly people of other area may practice the same. But it is funny, parents can do this better and by giving a cup of tea or coffee children can study more actively. Any how nice effort Good Luck, it reflects in result of that area, nice.

    Gentle Readers,
Reading these posts it is the role of parents to ensure that their children go to bed early to enable them to get up in time for school. I feel it is not teachers to ensure this. They surely could help students with learning disabilities and special need children to be taught in school.
There is time for both learning and playing. I do agree some kids go on the computer at an early age, watch too much TV and cartoons. This is not an healthy environment.

what is next?why should teachers wake up parents to learn or children should learn in Schools?their aim is to get pass percentage. Then teachers should teach specially slow learners a bit more.but not wake parents. They are waking up without teachers fone.children should have a Sound sleep ,then they learn better.only see that they sit less on Computer ,have a good Food and in fresh air instead of sitting inside with t.v.and go to sleep early so that next day they are fresh and can learn better.Parents are punished enough with todays budgets from Schools. My mother used to wakeus up at morning 5oclock church bell and send us to mass everyday at 6 oclock, later coming back have coffee ,bring milk and sit with bookstill the School benign. Our School was neare to our house.

Rita, Germany , I am sure your mother did well but I guess they or you did not learn your grammar nor spelling which is already available as you type, either you do not know why some of the words have red underline or you do not bother, yes I understand you do not require to know English in Germany may be they consider you to be highly educated since you know to communicate in English.

    Dear Bryan...
Mine was a different case. My mother it seems used to wake up at 4.30 a.m everyday . It was strict those days and you never questioned anything. My dear mother it seems longed to sleep for a few more minutes, but was unable to fearing repercussions. My mother then took a vow that if ever she had children ,she would let them finish their 'full sleep' and never disturb them .
True to her vow she has followed this even when she had great grand children. Even during our exam times ,when she used to be our 'alarm clock' of sorts..she used to come near our ears and say lovingly...'If you have read enough, there's no need for you to get up'...Were would you get such warmth?
    Wake up call-Yeah? BEO -Yeah??
