Mangalore, Jun 19: In a tragic incident reported at Pavoor, Harekala here on Thursday June 19, a 7-year-old boy lost his life after he touched a broken electrical wire.
The boy, identified as Mohammed Rizwan, son of Abdul Hameed and Sahira, was a 2nd standard student of Ramakrishna School, Harekala.
The incident took place when Rizwan was on his way to fetch milk on Thursday morning.
It is said that Rizwan was walking towards the shop when he noticed an electrical wire passing over some plants and lying close to the ground. The boy, intending to move it to a corner, held it without knowing that it was a live wire. He died on the spot.
The body was shifted to a private hospital.
It is said that the wire broke after heavy rain lashed the area on Wednesday June 18 night. The power supply in the vicinity was hit, and residents had complained to Mescom.
Mescom officials visited the spot. The locals expressed ire at the officials for their negligence in not attending to the broken wire on time.
A case has been registered in Konaje police station.
