Mangalore, Jun 18: The muhurat of Konkani drama 'Ucharn Sangtha' was held at Don Bosco hall here on Tuesday June 17 in the presence of many Konkani artistes.

The programme was organized by Karavali Konkans Mangalore. The drama 'Ucharn Sangtha' is written by Joel Pereira and directed by Dolla Mangalore. Claude D'Souza is the assistant director.

Fr Francis Rodrigues, editor, Raknno Weekly, inaugurated the ceremony by lighting the lamp along with guests Walter Nandalike of Daijiworld, Fr Cyprian, Joel Pereira and Claude D'Souza.

Karavali Konkans Mangalore announced that eminent Konkani dramatist Adolphus Cutinho, popularly known as Dolla Mangalore, had been chosen for this year's Karavali Konkans Kala Award. The award will be presented in a ceremony to be held in August this year.

Joel Pereira, the writer of 'Ucharn Sangtha' explained the meaning, depth and the strength of the drama. "Drama means nothing but an incident of your life; if the dialogues are good then the play is well-received."

Joel Pereira handed over the script to director Dolla.

Walter Nandalike in his address said that Dolla deserved the award and added, "He is an inspiration to all young artistes. The artistes who are present here today excel in everything they do. One who is obedient, will be blessed."

Fr Francis Rodrigues congratulated Karavali Konkans and explained the word 'drama' briefly as: "D is for direction, R for reflection, A for action, M for magnifying and A for articulation."

Dolla Mangalore explained how he and others started to make a new drama and read out the artistes' names who were in the play and gave roses to them.

Fr Cyprian expressed happiness in being part of the event and said that it was a proud moment for him and to Karavali Konkans. "In recent years writers are becoming less and Konkani writers are very few in number," he said.

Fr Francis Rodrigues blessed the occasion.

Leslie Rego compered the ceremony in his usual inimitable style; Claude D'Souza proposed the vote of thanks. At the end of the ceremony everyone gathered celebrated Dolla's birthday and wished him warmly.

Nellu Permannur, Dimple Pinto from Ashoknagar, Meena Rebimbus, Denis D'Silva, Joswin Pinto, Anil Saldanha, Alwin Veigas, Alwin Miranda, Mazy Bai, Rowina, Alwin Tauro, Denis Montiero, Aloysius and others were also present.

The drama will be performed on August 15.

Congratulations to Dolla bab. Also my best wishes to Joel Sir. Hats off to you Joel for your new drama. I am all surprised to read Raj's comments. Anyway Roshan has clarified it. Further does Raj know in person how much Dolla has given to Konkani Kala and drama? Does Raj realize how much time and energy is spent behind preparing any drama or any play? Easy to make comments, but please come and watch during practice and then you make comments. Dolla deserves such a kala Prashasti ok.

I am happy to hear the good news of a new drama. congratulations to Joel, director Dolla-claud duo.
Surprised to read the award to Dolla, as the same artist by the same organisation with different banner, in the same hall (Don Bosco) on the occation of Dolla's 55 year Birthday was given an award with 50000 cash.
    Is it another drama?
Are the artists, decision makers, know anything about the value of these awards? authorised to give awards?

    Mr. Raj is right.

Karavali Konkans must give chance for new Director for Konkani Drama like Ninasam Mr Christopher, Denis Monterio , John M Arun Raj etc.

New drama with all type of direction feel boring now a day.
Changes required in Konkani art and culture.

Old Director must change their mantle pattern . They now fit for Sanman

Raj, don't be confused so much!
Dolla got last time award from Konkani Kutam Bahrain, Rs 50,000. That prog was held at Bendur hall.
This award was constituted by Karaval Konkans, in the past awarded to JB Dsouza, Benna Ruzai...Dolla is first time getting this award. Pls encourage assocation and artistes, do not look at small things and confuse people unneccessarily

roshan you are completely wrong and misleading. I am aware of the Konkani kutam award of 50000 also. I have referred to Dolla's 55 years celebration at Don Bosco hall only. You kindly your information. we are always with artists and wish Dolla good luck.
