AirAsia India announces Bangalore-Kochi flights for Rs 500

Bangalore, Jun 17 (PTI): AirAsia India today announced flights between Bangalore and Kochi from next month with a limited offer of an all-inclusive fare of Rs. 500.

The airline, which had launched its first flight between Bangalore and Goa on June 12, would start daily operations from Bangalore to Kochi and vice versa from July 20, an airline spokesperson said.

In a statement, AirAsia India CEO Mittu Chandilya said, "We have done a complete analysis on our third destination and we are confident we will be able to reach out to more first time fliers."

Announcing "our third destination Kochi, within a few days of our launch," he said "we will stand by our promise to deliver a quality product to our guests that promises value for their money. ... We are very encouraged by outstanding reception to our product and service."

AirAsia India will be operating twice-a-day flight on the Bangalore-Chennai-Bangalore route from June 19, besides the daily flight between Bangalore and Goa.

The no-frill carrier is a 49:30:21 joint venture involving Malaysian low-cost carrier AirAsia Berhad, Tata Sons and Arun Bhatia's Telstra Tradeplace.

AirAsia India would focus on connecting tier-II cities offering fares about 35 per cent lower than the prevailing market rates, Chandilya had earlier said.

The other budget carriers are IndiGo, SpiceJet and GoAir, besides Air India Express and JetLite.

The lowest fare they say is only for limited seats which gets sold out within seconds. Others need to pay higher rates. When teh flight is full, business is not bad. Only danger is that they may hire low experienced staff including pilots to run the show IN LOW COST, which is a real threat!

I agree with Mr. R. Fernandes.
    Everyone please note.
    1) UDF at Bangalore airport is 342 INR.
    2) What is the fuel charge per seat?
    3) What about the service tax & other fees ?
Air Asia already has issues in SEA.
One must always keep in mind that for such a low fare everything is compromised.
Unlike road travel an aircraft must be 100% airworthy to be used in a flight. With such low airfare how do they manage to keep the aircraft fit? How much do they pay their staff? How much rest is given to the air crew?
In my opinion the DGCA must intervene in the matter & fix the minimum airfare to each & every route to avoid such kind of unhealthy competition.
Safer flight is always better than a cheaper flight

Few Comments above on Guarantee of Travel reminds me of Actor Comedian Mehmood who had once said - Train/Bus Accident - There You Are. Plane Accident - Where You Are. Friends Almighty God has already written our DOD (Death of Death) on the very day we were Born (DOB). Accept God's plans and do not get scared. Appreciate the low rate on Air Asia. Remember, TATA IS ONE OF THE PARTNERS IN THIS AIRLINE. In my opinion the fare of 1699 or 1999 is a good fare on the Sectors they are flying.

Shiva Shiva, that is a too good price! Do you expect bus price on plane? First couple of tickets might be 500 and last few could be 15 k or above!! Last few ticket of budget airline are more expensive than regulars. It is all demand and supply. It is all about additional choice!!

    R. Fernandes,

What an explanation ! Everything depends on our destiny. Do you mean to say travelling by Road is fully guaranteed ? God forbid.

    I have come to India.

Nothing is guaranteed. There are incidents, people have died by the fall of coconut on their head also.
I was saying that there can be a second chance on road travel but there cannot be in air travel.

Hey, no worries yaar. It's the perception we have here in India. All these low cost airlines are quite famous overseas. For example this Air asia is one of the most successful airlines at Malaysia. We used to enjoy a lot of domestic or near by travels using this air asia flights. this will definitely be better than your other domestic airlines like spicejet and all. We used to fly to India also using the same airlines. This will definitely be a touch competition to all our indian domestic airlines which are dominating the Indian airspace. No worries on quality and safety.

When the compitation increases quality will be compromised to stay in the game.
That can be the dangerous scenario specially with air travel and specially in the country like India where corruption is the norm!!

Hey... when it's projected as offer price, i don't think it includes TAX. So, it will be increased when you add up TAX. for example 0 Rsz ticket means, I don't think you are getting a 0 zero ticket. it's just the tax you need to bear. That's how it's operated at overseas. So, here also don't expect the ticket to be of same cost. As some onem mentioned when it was mentioned as 599 rs as offer proce, with tax it may come to 1200 for example ). But other airlines, the cost it will be 1500 TAX which is too high comparatively. Please educate yourself...
