Udupi, Jun 16: The newly-built office of MP Shobha Karandlaje was inaugurated at the DC's office here on Monday June 16.
Senior journalist M V Kamath, senior journalist inaugurated the office and said that Udupi stands first in the entire country when it come to hard work and efficiency.
Shobha Karandlaje in her address assured that a permanent solution would be chalked out to counter sea erosion problem in the district.
"Permanent measures will be taken to prevent sea erosion by using advanced technology. My ultimate dream is to convert Udupi into a smart city," she said.
Referring to UPCL shutting down power generation citing coal shortage, Shobha alleged that UPCL had been 'diverting government funds to invest in unproductive work'.
She put forth a few demands, namely, to make Mangalore a separate railway division, doubling of railway lines, and introducing a Garib Rath from Mangalore to Mumbai. She further said that she has discussed issues related to Udupi-Mangalore highway with transport minister Nitin Gadkari.
She further said that she would work for the people and also give equal imporance to preservation of environment. "Since I hail from an interior area, I understand problems bettwe and can give importance to people welfare as well as to animal conservation.
"I also attended the first session of the parliament in Delhi. I have already discussed issues relating to the forest lands with environment minister Prakash Javadekar," she added.
She also spoke against the proposed ban on areca and said that the Supreme Court will pass its judgement in July.
Former MLA Raghupati Bhat, Vasanth Salian and others were present.
