Monsoon reaches to Mumbai, confirms IMD

Mumbai, June 16 (Mid-Day): After braving the sweltering heat for the last 45 days, yesterday’s sporadic showers brought in some much needed relief for the weather-beaten Mumbaikars. Speaking to mid-day, IMD director (Mumbai) V K Rajeev said, “The monsoon has advanced and reached South Gujarat and covered Mumbai on Sunday.

We can now expect regular showers, along with a slight dip in the temperature.” While most regions Mumbai, Thane, Pune and Nagpur, among others, witnessed scanty rainfall till June 11, Dhule and Sangli have been experiencing downpours since the onset of monsoon.

Stark contrast

Last year, the city was crippled after heavy rains lashed it for three consecutive days starting June 16. Even the BMC advised citizens not to venture outdoors unless absolutely necessary. Besides, the downpour disrupted almost all the services on the Central line.
