- Punjab terrorist grilled on possible link; ATS seeks help from Israel
MUMBAI, July 19: Three persons were detained by police in Sindhudurg district on Tuesday for possessing material used in explosives. The seized material has been sent to the forensic science laboratory in Mumbai.
“The material was in cartons meant for mangoes. We are questioning the three,” Inspector General (Konkan range) Satyapal Singh told DNA.
There was also a report of an engineer being held at Malvan, but police did not confirm it.
The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), which is investigating the July 11 serial blasts in Mumbai, has doubled its efforts to track the movement of explosives in the state. On May 9, the squad had seized 30kg of RDX in Aurangabad. The statements of the 13 persons arrested in that haul are likely to come under scrutiny as they may be related to the local train blasts.
The ATS has also sought help from an Israeli intelligence agency, possibly Mossad, to trace the suspects. Israel is said to have a huge database on Islamist terrorists and their modus operandi.
