Mangalore, Jun 13: In a suspected case of suicide, two youngsters were found dead at Tannirbani here on Thursday June 13 evening.
The deceased have been identified as Prathap (24) and Manjula (15), both residents of Moodushedde.
The two were missing since Wednesday June 11 and their family members had filed a complaint with the Kavoor police.
The Kavoor police had reportedly asked the family to first check in all their relatives' houses and only then, if they are not found, to file a complaint. As per their advice, the family had searched everywhere.
On Thursday, a local noticed the bodies and informed the Panambur police. The police who rushed to the spot shifted the bodies to the mortuary in Wenlock. The police suspect that the two might have committed suicide by jumping into the water on Wednesday evening. Further investigations are on.
The deceased youth and the girl were cousins, it is learnt. The girl was an SSLC student while the youth worked in a garage. Even though they were cousins, they fell in love with each other, it is said.
Being from the same town and family, they used to meet each other now and then and none of the family members had doubted their relationship.
However, when their alleged affair was becoming known, the youngsters, unable to face people, left home and reportedly jumped into the Kulur river. Their bodies were found at the river bank at Tannir Bavi under Panambur police station limits.
The bodies were found in an embrace with a shawl and a belt tied around them, it is learnt. Some papers found in the youth’s trouser pocket and their mobile phones have been taken into possession by the police. However, as the papers were soggy and mobiles phones switched off, not much information could be obtained from them.
