Mangalore, Jun 13: In a suspected case of suicide, two youngsters were found dead at Tannirbani here on Thursday June 13 evening.

The deceased have been identified as Prathap (24) and Manjula (15), both residents of Moodushedde.

The two were missing since Wednesday June 11 and their family members had filed a complaint with the Kavoor police.

The Kavoor police had reportedly asked the family to first check in all their relatives' houses and only then, if they are not found, to file a complaint. As per their advice, the family had searched everywhere.

On Thursday, a local noticed the bodies and informed the Panambur police. The police who rushed to the spot shifted the bodies to the mortuary in Wenlock. The police suspect that the two might have committed suicide by jumping into the water on Wednesday evening. Further investigations are on.

The deceased youth and the girl were cousins, it is learnt. The girl was an SSLC student while the youth worked in a garage. Even though they were cousins, they fell in love with each other, it is said.

Being from the same town and family, they used to meet each other now and then and none of the family members had doubted their relationship.

However, when their alleged affair was becoming known, the youngsters, unable to face people, left home and reportedly jumped into the Kulur river. Their bodies were found at the river bank at Tannir Bavi under Panambur police station limits.

The bodies were found in an embrace with a shawl and a belt tied around them, it is learnt. Some papers found in the youth’s trouser pocket and their mobile phones have been taken into possession by the police. However, as the papers were soggy and mobiles phones switched off, not much information could be obtained from them.

@ prabhu , mangalore. Criminal procedure codes are not religious in india and applies to all. Same as crpc 2013 , which states physical relationship with wife above 15 is not rape , it applies to all even hindus. So even in hindu marriage act it does not come under RAPE. Muslims have advantage with age of marriage as they can challenge PCMA. Rest I Agree.

@ prabhu , mangalore. The age of marriage is 18 only in Hindu marriage act. Muslim personal laws sets it as Age of puberty which can be even 12. PCMA ....prevention of child marriage act only prohibits child marriage , but once ceremony happens its legal. Criminal proceedings upon pcma are very rare and courts issue bail , if minor girl consents in courts. Morever muslims have the advantage of challenging pcma with the help of personal religious law ( please refer delhi high court judgement involving minor girl , where it aquited boy of kidnap charges. )

Secondly , rape charges wont apply according to crpc 2013 , which states ' any physical relationship with wife if she is above 15 , then its not RAPE.

Ok , i agree kidnapping charges are tricky and parents can file FIR. But if the. same girl consents in court with marriage certificate its accepted and in most cases kidnapping charges are aquitted. There r lot of such cases u can refer.

    Right roshan,
    Where muslim act is concerned.
    Here both are hindus.
Sex if attempted will be termed as rape as she is a minor.
Pcma sec 10,11,. 12., 13,.15 ,.16 are very strict on this issue.
But as you suggest then if they approched the police they might have got a respite and if the police is level headed some support till they came of age.
But fright and love overtook their desire to live.
And then no one kniws WHAT THE FIR MAY BE...NICE KNOWING YOU ,

RIP, ridiculous a 15 year old minor having so much guts!!

I read a recent report of a meeting of psychiatrists and counselors in Mumbai who were shocked to see the number of cases of minors getting involved in sexual activity has gone down to as low as 13 years, most exposed to hard core porn, and some parents shocked on hearing bold statements from minors like "Mom I have decided to lose my virginity this vacation time"!!

Parents should have a very balanced approach in handling such situations till the turbulent period of rush of hormones cools down with age!!

not sure where are we heading. one side we are saying youths are smart enough, talking about becoming super nation and all. but other side we have such people also. how can they go against such a strong belief or I say a religious law defined. That's the problem, they don't care initially and later it will be too late. Or may be they would have came in relation and then realised they are cousins.. then matter is different. but if knows cousins... then stupidity to fall in love and get life screwed up. if we let these to happen , tomorrow bro and sisters will plan to love and marry. Let's relaise the seriousness and stop such stupid moves. Any ways, these 2 ended up their life for the error.

Feel realy sorry for young couples . May their soul rest in peace. Youngsters should be made aware of their legal rights , courts accept consent of minor girl if she is in love ( we can see lot such court verdicts ). Even under PCMA minor marriage is legal and as age of consent once married is 15 , so they are free to become parents too.

Legally, a Hindu bridegroom should be aged 21 and a bride 18. However, several girls over 15 but under 18 elope to marry men of their choice. In many cases, the boy is subsequently arrested and charged with rape and kidnapping. What does the court do in such circumstances?

At present the age of marriage specified under the Hindu Marriage Act is 18 years for women and 21 years for men. But there have been a number of instances where girls/young women below the age of 18 fall in love, elope and marry boys of their choice. A complaint is later filed by the girl’s family, and a First Information Report (FIR) of rape and kidnapping registered against the boy. The boy’s family and friends are also made co-accused in the case. The police machinery then swings into action. The boy is arrested and jailed, as rape and kidnapping are grave offences. The girl is apprehended her parents try to get custody of her and she is illegally confined to the home. She is emotionally blackmailed as well as physically and mentally harassed to get her to repudiate the marriage.

They should be educated by there parents to be matured For teenagers, sometimes their overwhelming hopelessness is enough to cause them to take their own lives. Most teens who survive suicide attempts say that they tried to kill themselves because they were trying to escape a situation that seemed impossible to deal with, or they were trying to escape overwhelming feelings like rejection, guilt, anger, or sadness

15 and 15 years old - love. What is this nonsense? It is the age to get educated. suicide is not a solution. I think dialogue between parents, children and families can certainly conclude something better. Live and letting Live is love, They should have run away and try to live ...anyways may their souls RIP.

I have never heard of any pair being 'allegedly in love'. In any case there's a first time...
Committing suicide at 15!Clear case of immaturity and lack of vision.
I do not know now , but in our times at 15 many did not know the contours of their body even. There were exceptions though but not many. Many boys would not even have grown beard at this age.
Very sad this wasting of life for a silly reason ...

I had a call from my friend , just now, informing that her great grandmother had 2 children when she was 15!
Well ! Those were also the days I told her- but in any case we did not belong to that era! Those times the climate and environment was very much conducive to all that. Torrential rains those times and great Grand Pa's not even able to go out and all that!
In our times it was a bit different. Rains had eased and environment also changed. She understood. As I said our era was some sort of a 'sandwiched' era!
There was some innocence too! Now innocence has become synonymous with mirage.
    Is it not?
