Mangalore, Jun 12: The students of Munnur government school in Kuthar in the taluk are going through a harrowing time due to the overpowering and dirty stench that has been numbing their olfactory glands and making their stomachs to churn, day in and day out.

The stinking water that flows through the roadside storm drains gets deposited outside the main gate of this school. The students are forced to pinch their noses tight and breathe through their mouths from the moment they approach the gate till they leave in the evening. The pile of garbage right at the school gate has added to their woes, besides posing risk to their health.

The headmaster of the school had complained to the local gram panchayat about this unhealthy situation. Although panchayat president, Abdul Rahiman, and panchayat development officer visited the school and verified the condition there on Wednesday, no steps were to taken till evening to provide relief to teachers and students alike from their ordeal.

President of Children's Rights Association of the school, Pavan, and other members, apprised the panchayat officials during their visit about the despicable condition faced by them. The members of this association have decided to approach the local MLA, U T Khadar, who also happens to be the state health minister, for help if the problem is not addressed by Thursday afternoon.

On Wednesday evening, sewage water mixed with mud gushed into the school compound because of heavy rain, and the students were therefore forced to leave from the back gate.

    Dear All
It is our nature to blame politicians panchayat leaders corporaters etc. But we every citizens are failed in doing our duty to keep our surroundings clean .People through their wastage tied in plastic bags everywhere on the road side, when rain started these wastage block the main drainage or storm water access and starting to flow wherever it is possible. Rain water does't know whether it is school, hospital, your house ,my house, etc. So dump in a proper designated area or dig a small pit in your compound put the decompostible wastage in the pit and use as manure for plants, burn the plastic bags in your compound corner. In this way we can reduce pollution and keep our city clean instead of blaming others.(now don't ask me the people who are staying in flats where to dump their wastage ask with your builder).
