Karkala: Man found in woman's company insulted, assaulted - several in custody

R B Jagadish
Daijiworld Media Network – Karkala (SP)

Karkala, Jun 11: A group of persons brutally assaulted a person who was found to be in the company of a woman from another community at a house in Banglegudde area here on Tuesday June 10 afternoon. The persons who led this attack accused the man, said to be from Bailoor near here, of being a 'perverted sexual maniac', it is said.

The gang members, who barged into the house where the two were together, reportedly behaved rudely with him, hit him with various things and injured him badly. They also trimmed his hair in order to humiliate him, source said. The assaulters also captured the attack on camera and posted the same on Whatsapp and Facebook, it is learnt.

The injured was initially admitted into the taluk government hospital here, before being shifted to KMC Hospital Manipal at the advice of the medical officer there.

It is learnt that the victim, who primarily conducts money lending business, has criminal background, with several cases having been registered against him in the town police station here in the past. There are rumours that he always has been on the out for single women, trying to lure them into satiating his desires when opportunities arise.

The police promptly jumped into action and took into custody several youngsters from Banglegudde. Some were let off after questioning, while several more are being interrogated, it is learnt. Prompt police action in this case has come in for allround appreciation from the people of the town.

    Dear Aadil Khan Kasaragod/SaudiArabia
"Though any sexual act outside marriage is immoral and sin, I think here the public has no right to lay their hands on anyone as long as the woman has no objection and both indulged in the act with mutual consent"
Do you believe what you have written above in your comment is okay with you or with any of your loved ones?
Does it not contradict with your ethical statement used by saying "Though any sexual act outside marriage is immoral and sin".
So trust, loyal or any other words are good to find only in Dictionary.
Think you are working in Saudi and you might be knowing bit of sharia law, so never make such mistakes literally and dont support any for such stuffs !!
And moral policing is a serious issue we are facing in DK and udupi unless we behave without giving such options to take over, wat say?
    thank you

This incident reminds me the followings incidents of extreme ends of moral policing on religious grounds:

    1. Chopping the hand of Professor T. J. Joseph in July, 2010 accused of hurting religious sentiments when he had prepared a question for an examination.

    2. June, 2014, I.T. Techie's Mohsin Shaikh murder for allegedly uploading derogatory photographs of Shivaji and Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray to social media.

Both communities have moral police force.... Who will put an end to it... ?? Who started it and why??? Lots of questions need to be answered....As long as there is no social justice and impartial police and judiciary, such things will continue to happen. People should not take law into their hands and leave it to the administration and judiciary...then only we can have peace in our society...Moral policing if not checked shall become Taliban of our coastal Karnataka and no will be able to stop their stature in the coming days... Modi sarkar and Siddu sarkar should act in the best interest of our nation.

The attack is height of hooliganism and repeated such incidents resurfacing at regular intervals are really bringing a very bad name to DK!! As if all the other problems were not enough, moral policing is the worst and anybody from an outer state would think 100 times before sending their children for education here or even those thinking of setting shop or settling down here!! Situation is indeed going from bad to worse and does not augur well for a place which is considered as progressive!! The culprits must be brought to book and dealt as per the law to avoid recurrence of such uncivilized incident!!

Though any sexual act outside marriage is immoral and sin, I think here the public has no right to lay their hands on anyone as long as the woman has no objection and both indulged in the act with mutual consent.

This moral policing members are not saint, rather they are jealous. And this sort of nuisance is rampant only in Udupi and Mangalore areas.

Nowadays even muslim people are involved in moral policing to take revenge against RSS... In both case innocent people are targeted... So government & mainly our police department should work transparent to justify the people... my point of view all groupism which divide the harmony between two community should be banned & leaders should be punished....

I don't think it's so tought o find the truth. Was there any need for both of them being alone at that house. If so, it's clear as why the hell these people barged into the house. If there is no proper justification being alone there, it's evident as he was there with some wrong intention, may be even the girl. So, it's justifies the attack. But one thing here. Unless Police is capable of getting these activities stopped ( including illegal cow slaughtering), I think these Moral policing will continue like this. The day when people feel police can take care and stop these illegal activities we hope this moral policing will stop.

After Home Minister becomes busy in consoling AGDP, police became fully de-funct in Karnataka. Both immoral people and Moral Policing growing like anything.

The society has right to object, but not through hooliganism. There is a system of judiciary and police department in place and let them takes care of the law-and-order in a law-full manner, not the way Sainiks and Senas act. Who gave them the power and right to stop the people and create problem in the society?

No one has the right to assault some one simply assuming nonsense. If some one found doing wrong to be caught and handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and action. We do not think the people assaulted are saints. Trust these people are not trying to tarnish the image of the new government who assures a Good Governess. Let almighty bestow good wisdom on these people.

    Hi Dheera, Mumbai,

Please let us know what you will do, if someone behaves like this with your female relatives. Will you promptly hand over them to police like a good boy? I do not think so, because tell me who has confidence on police taking prompt action?

    Dear JNB, Bejai

Males should have bigger responsibility than female, as female mind is soft and can be fooled easily.

It does not mean that males should misuse the females' soft mind.

I think the lady involved in this sexual activity should be highlighted. She is also equally responsible for this act. Without her permission I feel he never would do this.

    Self-invited problems.

Are you barred to a partner from your own community? At least learn some lessons from all the previous incidents and attacks.

    These all communities man made.
    Not nature made,
    According nature
    Male and Female
    Positive & Negative.

    When nature provides Water,Warmth,Oxygen
    Whether it checks

If he was there against the wishes of the woman, then the man should be caught and given to the police. Beyond that, what ever happens is not civic behaviour. Many a times, I too have felt the urge to thrash/kick, but I belong to a nation which has a framework.

Is it blood that we see on the windowsill, spread like ink or watercolor?

    Let me get this clarified.
when our water pump goes bad, mr x comes to fix it, he is not of my religion. will he be assaulted?
When our cable Tv doesn't work, mr y comes to fix it, he too is from different religion. Will he be assaulted?
When I need some help to trim the garden, yet another person is called, and he too is not of my community.

I am a woman (not so young), so all these people who come/go to my house, will they be assaulted? They could be, right?

Good, next time, I will call someone with whom I have to settle a score with to my house, and let the moral police know.

    What a state of affairs!

"There are rumours that he always has been on the out for single women, trying to lure them into satiating his desires when opportunities arise." Unquote...
    1.Substantiated or unsubstantiated rumours?
    2.When opportunities arise...Hmmm
Looks like a 'ready riser' this one!...So when no opportunities arise he is like a saint...yeah?
'Rises' to the level of a saint.
This 'rising' has put many in a spot of bother in their life time.No one is gallant enough to admit it.
    No wonder this saying then...
'Lack of opportunities too make one a saint sometimes'...conversely
    or whatever...
    'Some become saints after lapping
    up all opportunities'....
    Is it not?

Those who are involved in moral policing should be booked under TADA / POTA and bail should not be granted. We need a big full stop for moral policing in DK-Udupi.
