High drama as man kills uncle over marriage proposal

Kolar, Jun 10: In an incident reported here on Sunday night, a man killed his maternal uncle and was killed when police opened fire.

The incident was reported in Kaji Kallhalli, about ten kilometers from Kolar. Kolar SP Ajay Hilori said the deceased have been identified as Muniyappa (65) and Rama Murthy (27).

According to the villagers, Rama Murthy reportedly asked his uncle Muniyappa to get his daughter married to him. Muniyappa however was reluctant about the proposal. On Sunday night, Rama Murthy was waiting in his uncle’s house, when Muniyappa and his wife Venkatamma reached home late after attending a marriage in the locality.

Rama Murthy reportedly demanded that he accept the marriage proposal. When Muniyappa sought time, a heated argument ensued. Rama Murthy allegedly locked the room from the inside and began assaulting the aged couple. He dragged his uncle to a room and attacked him with a weapon killing him on the spot. He later dumped ragi and floor sacks to hide the body. He also assaulted Venkatamma, who sustained a serious head injury. During the attack, both victims called out for help and the villagers immediately informed the police.

SP Hilori said the police, who arrived at the spot, asked Rama Murthy to surrender but to no avail.  Although the police tried to ease the situation by using teargas shells, Rama Murthy was defiant.

The police made attempts to arrest him, but he assaulted head constable Narayanaswamy with a chopper. He later snatched a rifle from a police constable and threatened the police. A constable opened fire in self-defence.

Sensing further trouble, Kolar Rural Police Station, Circle Inspector A B Sudhakara opened fire at him. He was immediately shifted to Jalappa Hospital and later to Victoria in Bangalore where he succumbed to his injuries, said Hilori.

Both head constable Narayanaswamy and Muniyappa’s wife Venkatamma are recovering at Kolar Hospital. Kolar Rural Police have registered a case.

Dear jeetendra hegde, Mumbai - what you are saying here does not make any sense at all! How can any govt. involve in each and every family affair and guard each and every family? Is it not a very childish and silly statement?

As though such incidents never took place in BJP ruled states. We simply cannot blame the Government for every act of some uncivilized rogue people. Such nasty people even forget that the God (is watching) when they indulge in such criminal acts.

It needs social reform, love for others and realization of ills of Devils/Evils.

Mr. Fernandes, very soon Mr. Hegde will shoot a reply saying that the Police is central government employee..

This exactly like a father ascribing any good deed in his son to himself as 'My Son did this' but as soon as some disgracing act comes up, the brat at-once becomes his wife's son.

What an aggressive and ruthless man? Rama Murthy, (nam Bhagvan ka, kaam tho Ravana ka)

He took someone’s life for nothing. No regret that he was killed by police. Thank God, at least the would be wife has been saved from this monster.
