Bangalore, Jun 7 (DHNS): An unidentified man sneaked into a room in a paying guest (PG) accommodation and allegedly raped a girl who was asleep, in Electronics City police limits, in the early hours of Friday.
According to police, the 25-year-old girl who hails from Jharkhand had come down to the City a few months ago and was working in a major software firm.
Police added that the victim was asleep in a room in the first floor.
Her roommate usually leaves for work at around 3.30 am. On Friday, as usual she locked the door and left the key near the window adjacent to the door.
According to police, the accused, who is suspected to have come to the PG for theft, noticed the key being left near the window.
He opened the door using the key and entered the room, police said.
Victim woke up in shock
A senior police official said, “The victim woke up from sleep in a shock and resisted him, but he overpowered her and gagged her.”
The victim is being treated at the St John’s Hospital. Her parents back home have been informed about the incident.
A complaint has been lodged at the Electronics City police station. The police are trying to find out if there are any CCTVs in the vicinity,” the official said.The police said that around 40 girls stay in the PG accommodation. “We are yet to find out if there was a guard there,” the official said.
The police said that they are questioning habitual offenders in the area and are trying to gather more clues.
Idols stolen
The North Division police arrested two people and recovered two ‘panchaloha’ idols and ornaments worth Rs 2.5 lakh. The suspects are Srinivas, 25, and Prabhu Kumar, 23, both residents of Thindlu in Vidyaranyapura.
The police said the duo visited a house recently at Vidyaranyapura posing as salesmen.
They pretended to sell some goods, but the woman in the house refused to buy them.
They asked her to get some water to drink and when she went inside, they followed her, threatened her at knifepoint and took away the idols and other valuables.
