The deceased has been identified as two-and-a-half-year-old Shama, daughter of Abdul Rahiman and Sumayya.

Abdul Rahiman was driving the goods rickshaw from Kadur to Beltangady, when the vehicle developed a technical snag at Beetige and went out of control. As a result, the rickshaw overturned, injuring Rahiman and Sumayya, and killing their child.
