Dubai, Jun 7: Yaksha Mitraru, a group of enthusiasts engaged in the task of promoting Tulunadu's rich art form of Yakshagana in the UAE, on Friday June 6 once again provided a memorable treat to the packed audience at Sheik Rashid auditorium.
Yaksha Mitraru, on the threshold of celebrating its 11th anniversary, presented 'Maanishada', a Kannada historical Yakshagana that kept their audience glued to their seats throughout the evening.
The colourful and apt stage setting, characterization, performance and dialogues sprikled with humour were the highlights of the play.
The Yakshagana, written by Purushottama Poonja, with Chende by Padmanabha Updhyaya and playback Bhagavata by Dinesh Ammannaya and Satish Shetty, was highly appreciated by the audience. Costume and make-up by Lakshman Kumar Marakada and Gangadhar D Shettigar brought out the true essence of Yakshagana.
Veteran Bhagavata artiste Dinesh Ammannaya was felicitated on the occasion. The other artistes were also honoured with mementoes.
Earlier in the evening, dignitaries inaugurated the programme by lighting the traditional lamp. Harish Sherigar, MD of Acme Building Materials, Satish Venkataramana of Chilly Willy, Sarvotham Shetty, Shashi Shetty, Vittal Shetty, K R Tantry, S Shetty, Dinesh Ammannaya, Patla Satish Shetty, Chidananda Poojary and others were present.
