Doha, Jun 6: Moodambail Ravi Shetty, hailing from Doninjeguthu family in Mangalore was unanimously elected the president of Tulu Koota Qatar on Friday June 6 during its annual general body meeting held at the Indian Cultural Center (ICC) Bengalore Hall in Doha, Qatar.
The AGM which started at 9 am was chaired by the outgoing president Seetharam Shetty. Former ICC president K M Varghese was the returning officer.
Seetharam Shetty welcomed the gathering and presented a brief report of Tulu Koota activities during his tenure. He thanked the executive committee, sponsors, volunteers and all members of the Koota for their tremendous support during his tenure as well as when he was unwell, and requested the gathering to render the same support to the new committee.
Outgoing general secretary Sudhir Kotian presented the minutes of the previous AGM and gave a brief annual report. Outgoing treasurer Vivian D’Souza presented the audited financial report which was later approved by the members. The first session came to an end after Seetharam Shetty dissolved the existing committee and handed over the stage to the returning officer K M Varghese who announced the approved nominations of 8 office-bearers and the only nomination for the post of the president.

The newly-elected president M Ravi Shetty gave the introductory speech and appealed to all the members for their continued support and co-operation. He assured the members that the new team would give more priority towards charity activities along with other socio-cultural activities.
Ravi Shetty, a well-known philanthropist and founder member has served as vice-president and later as president of Tulu Koota Qatar during 2008-2010, and also as founder president of Bunts Qatar which was formally launched by Dr Shantharam Shetty in the year 2011. He was instrumental in arranging ‘Yakshagana’ for the first time in Qatar during Tulu Koota’s 10th Anniversary celebration and also during the Vishwa Kannada Sammelana held in Qatar in the year 2008. He is actively involved in social, charitable and special needs services associated with Tulu Koota Qatar, Bunts Qatar and also back home in India. He has also provided employment opportunites in his company ATS (Advanced Technical Services and Associated Technical Services) to hundreds of Indians, out of which majority are from the coastal belt. Vice-president Prakash Rao has served the forum in different capacities in many earlier committees. General secretary Kiran Anand has served as sports secreatary earlier. Sports coordinator Asmath Ali too has served Tulu Koota in various capacities including as vice-president and he is also the captain of Tulu Koota cricket team. Dr Padmashree R Shetty was instrumental in the success of many cultural events during the previous tenure as cultural secretary. Joint secretary Abdulla Monu again brings a rich experience of his earier tenures in different capacities including a vice-president. Other joint secretary Veena V Rao too has served in the previous committees. New members Kevin Aranha and Nithesh Doddanagudde have served as selfless volunteers during the last few years. It is heartening to note in this new committee that all these members have come forward to serve the community irrespective of what positions they are in. Overall the new team is a blend of youth and experience with proven track record and the expectations are quite high with greater standards and bench marks.
Executive committee members who have served Tulu Koota Qatar since its inception were honored with mementos for their selfless service.
The event came to an end with vote of thanks by Sudhir Kotian. Cultural secretary Padmashree Shetty compered the entire event.
