Daijiworld Media Network - Doha

Doha, Jun 6: Moodambail Ravi Shetty, hailing from Doninjeguthu family in Mangalore was unanimously elected the president of Tulu Koota Qatar on Friday June 6 during its annual general body meeting held at the Indian Cultural Center (ICC) Bengalore Hall in Doha, Qatar.

The AGM which started at 9 am was chaired by the outgoing president Seetharam Shetty. Former ICC president K M Varghese was the returning officer.

Seetharam Shetty welcomed the gathering and presented a brief report of Tulu Koota activities during his tenure. He thanked the executive committee, sponsors, volunteers and all members of the Koota for their tremendous support during his tenure as well as when he was unwell, and requested the gathering to render the same support to the new committee.

Outgoing general secretary Sudhir Kotian presented the minutes of the previous AGM and gave a brief annual report. Outgoing treasurer Vivian D’Souza presented the audited financial report which was later approved by the members. The first session came to an end after Seetharam Shetty dissolved the existing committee and handed over the stage to the returning officer K M Varghese who announced the approved nominations of 8 office-bearers and the only nomination for the post of the president.

Later the new management committee for the year 2014 -2016 was officially announced as follows:

M Ravi Shetty – President
Prakash Rao - Vice-president
Kiran Anand - General secretary
Asmath Ali - Sports coordinator
Dr Padmashree R Shetty - Cultural secretary
Nithesh Doddangudde - Treasurer
Abdulla Monu - Joint secretary
Veena V Rao - Joint secretary
Kevin Aranha - Membership coordinator

The newly-elected president M Ravi Shetty gave the introductory speech and appealed to all the members for their continued support and co-operation. He assured the members that the new team would give more priority towards charity activities along with other socio-cultural activities.

Ravi Shetty, a well-known philanthropist and founder member has served as vice-president and later as president of Tulu Koota Qatar during 2008-2010, and also as founder president of Bunts Qatar which was formally launched by Dr Shantharam Shetty in the year 2011. He was instrumental in arranging ‘Yakshagana’ for the first time in Qatar during Tulu Koota’s 10th Anniversary celebration and also during the Vishwa Kannada Sammelana held in Qatar in the year 2008. He is actively involved in social, charitable and special needs services associated with Tulu Koota Qatar, Bunts Qatar and also back home in India. He has also provided employment opportunites in his company ATS (Advanced Technical Services and Associated Technical Services) to hundreds of Indians, out of which majority are from the coastal belt. Daijiworld has carried an article on him titled 'Ravi Shetty - Mangalore’s Pride in Qatar'.

Vice-president Prakash Rao has served the forum in different capacities in many earlier committees. General secretary Kiran Anand has served as sports secreatary earlier. Sports coordinator Asmath Ali too has served Tulu Koota in various capacities including as vice-president and he is also the captain of Tulu Koota cricket team. Dr Padmashree R Shetty was instrumental in the success of many cultural events during the previous tenure as cultural secretary. Joint secretary Abdulla Monu again brings a rich experience of his earier tenures in different capacities including a vice-president. Other joint secretary Veena V Rao too has served in the previous committees. New members Kevin Aranha and Nithesh Doddanagudde have served as selfless volunteers during the last few years. It is heartening to note in this new committee that all these members have come forward to serve the community irrespective of what positions they are in. Overall the new team is a blend of youth and experience with proven track record and the expectations are quite high with greater standards and bench marks.

Executive committee members who have served Tulu Koota Qatar since its inception were honored with mementos for their selfless service.

The event came to an end with vote of thanks by Sudhir Kotian. Cultural secretary Padmashree Shetty compered the entire event.

    Dear Chida Anna,
Thanks for your wishes. Many associations here in Qatar will always remain grateful for your valuable advice and immense support for many years.
However your comment that Tulu Koota was not on the right track during the last four years is not correct and bound to hurt the sentiment of respective Managing committee and associated members. As they have devoted their valuable personal time and dedicated effort to take the forum in the right track with high quality socio cultural events, they do not deserve to get hurt after the completion of their successful tenure. When we are in large group, mistakes and misunderstandings are bound to happen and again it is the responsibility of each one of us specially as senior members to take Koota in the right track . There is again regular meetings to work out strategies ,plan activities, exchange ideas, clarify and clear misunderstandings if any so that the main objective of creating a better society is not lost.
Once again I would like to reaffirm that your contribution in spreading Tulu Culture in this part of the world by giving opportunities to deserving Artists from our mother land will always remain very special and unique in the minds of all the Art lovers .

Daijiworld did publish an article about Mr. Ravi Shetty it drew a complete picture about this ‘Great Society Man’

Most importantly I remember and agree…

    1. Is a Good Human being
    2. A born leader
    3. Successful businessmen owning multiple companies employing hundreds of them
most of them from coastal belt resembling like a small community, intermingling of all faiths.
    4. A silent philanthropist, finds much happiness in giving than receiving.
    5. Head of a Humble family Gracious wife and Courteous children.

Congrats Ravi Anna, Great occasion. Two presidencies at a time, President of TKQ and President of Bunts Qatar. If at all there was another Presidency on Inter-Faith we could have chosen you as it Head for your special virtues for promoting much required peace and harmony among all the faiths in Qatar.

Best of Luck. You have team of outstanding members some of them I know specially Vivian D’ Souza, Prakash Rao, Vice President and immediate President Mr. Seetharam Shetty, past few Presidents of Tulu Koota Qatar. Will try to offer my regular support to TKQ and offering sincere Prayers as a Tulu Koota Member.
