Kundapur: Three transporting cattle legally assaulted by group of 40

Silvester D'Souza
Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur

Kundapur, Jun 5: A lorry transporting cattle from one goshala to another was waylaid and three persons including the chief of a Math in Kollur were allegedly assaulted by a group on the night of Wednesday June 4 at Koteshwar here.

Lorry driver Michael (27) from Jadkal, and his companions Joseph (64) from Mudur, and Maithri Kashyappa Swamiji (50), chief of a religious centre in Kollur, were assaulted by the group. They were admtted to Chinmayee Hospital in Kundapur, and among them Michael is said to have sustained serious injuries.

It is said that 10 cows and two calves were being transported in an Eicher lorry from goshala of Kollur to the one at Tapovarishtrashrama in Palakkad, Kerala, which also falls under the aegies of Kollur religious centre. Michael, Joseph and Kashyappa Swamiji possessed official documents from Kollur police, Kollur gram panchayat and letterhead from Kollur religious centre granting permission to transport the cattle.

While they were transporting the cattle from Kollur to Palakkad, a group of youth who received information about this waylaid the lorry at Koteshwar and assaulted the three. First, two persons who came by bike questioned the lorry driver, who told them that he possessed valid documents. Two more persons came by bike, who called some others on phone and told them to come to the spot. This way, about 40 persons gathered at the spot and began assaulting the three, without even bothering to see the documents. As a consequence, Michael and Joseph sustained serious injuries, while the swamiji was injured on hands and face.

About the religious centre: Guru Tatadhan is said to be the main preacher of Kollur and Palakkad Tapovarishtrashrama. He is presently residing in Canada. He first established Tapovarishtrashrama and then the religious centre at Kollur. Such centres have been established across the country and in other countries too, and each has a preacher.

The Kundapur police are on the hunt for the accused who assaulted the three. Unconfirmed sources said that the police have already taken some persons for questioning. Under the direction of DySP C B Patil, circle inspector Diwakar P M and team are investigating the case.

If you can kill a buffalo, or a goat, or a chicken if fail to understand why not a cow. Just because some importance is given to a cow. the persons doing all this are but area gangsters who collect their hafta for transporting cattle. the police must put a stop to all this. From time to time disguised police should transport cows in vans and nab all these culprits.

Unnecessary stuff is dragged into in this particular incident. Just want to clear things on Al Kabeer! Al Kabeer has got two partners Mr. Subberwal and Mr. Shaikh. First name intentionally withheld. Yes a Punjabi and a Muslim partner. But now their sons are carrying on. Dubai and Sharjah they have two value addition plants along with seafood, catering to all GCC. In India there is a slaughter house in Hyderabad and production facility. And also a set up in Bombay. The business is now more than 25 to 30 years old. Only goats and buffaloes are slaughtered and no COWS! And as far as I know even Allanas and many other meat exporters are also doing the same as officially in India there is now slaughtering cows. Whatever is there is all illegal facility. Mr. Suberwals wife is a Gujarati and that is correct.

These people should be booked under Goonda act and court should order them to pay for all the damages plus one lac from each of those youngsters involved as compensation to the victims, in lieu should be jailed for 5 more years in addition.
government of Karnataka should not allow these rowdies to take law in their hands. If Karnataka Home Minister Mr. George does not take heed of this incident and order arrest, (not probe) of all involved, his days will be numbered in Karnataka Government. So many unrests, even in the police cadres and he seems to be lethargic in ordering\questioning his subordinates for their laxity in maintaining law and order.
Are we seeing the end of Congress in Karnataka too Mr. George Sir?
Congress Government in Karnataka should notice the wind changing even as when the LS election campaigns started.
If Government keeps mum over various things, then they themselves will be responsible for the debacle to follow.

India is no.1 beef exporter in the world since 1988, exporting more than 1.5 million metric tons every year. There's subsidy available for exporting beef. Supreme court also in one of its verdict allowed slaughter of cattle aged more than 12 yrs. citing the burden on the farmer as they would become non productive. Based on this several states including Karnataka have drafted bills regarding cattle slaughter. The states of Gujrath, MP & Chathisgadh, which have a complete ban on cattle slaughter are now facing the problem of aged cattle being abandoned & dying along side the roads. Ironically the largest cattle slaughter house of Asia, functioning in Andhra, is owned by Jains of Gujrath.
By the way I just want to know how many of those 40 M F A Hs have aged cattle at their home? Who gave them the authority to waylay a truck transporting legal goods? Doesn't that amount to highway robbery?
Also there are lapses on the part of the transporters. They should have used a truck with a longer platform & high side deck load body for that many no. of cattle.

I myself am not a red meat eater, not because of religious reason but for health reasons. But I have no right to enforce my belief/practices on others. If cow slaughter is banned in India due to religious/cultural reasons, why our neighboring Kerala and all the north eastern states are exempted from this legislation? Aren’t they part of India too?

This incidents may definitely be led to more suspect upon goshala of Kollur. If they really would have been shifted these cows from kollur to pallakkad, why other communal people had taken care of transportation? In this matter, everybody is doubted on the swaamiji, who used to send it for 'kasaayi khaane' instead of saying a shifting drama! our own community people will do like this, then how we stop such nonsense activities, tell me friends.

If you put these goondas(all 40) in jail for 2 years without bail, Kundapur will have peace in near future!

Better to start your farm in Hassan and in case of transporting cattle to Mangalore, it is better to consult with some local Bajrangdal/moral plice leader for the best solution in this regard. Of course you will have to spend extra bucks for the arrangement.

If this trend continues, even a farmer will dread rearing cows because then he may have to lock them up in the shed. He may not be able to take them out for grazing because on the way he may be branded a cattle thief and attacked.

    Indeed, Achche din aagaye hain..

    Lydia,
Already we are facing the situation you mentioned. Because of the might of the compensations and support from the ruling Congress cattle thieves even steal cows from the shed.

In future we may have to hire security agencies with AK 47 or other weapons to transport legally cattle from one place to another. What is happening in Mangalore. I'm disappointed Congress is ruling the state govt ,Minorities are being attacked by the Goons But no action has been taken from the govt. I'm sure those culprits beaten Michael and Joseph after knowing their religion.

    No stopping the goons.
COW - they get into action, immaterial as to what is the purpose huh?

I wish these same goons, reared some Indian breed cows and calves, than roaming around the street, hunting down prey.

How do all ACTIVE DAIJI readers view this? Things slipping out of hand? Apne log apna dushman?

Thank god they didn't have a firearm, else...apno ke haath mein apnon ki jaan katre mein.
