Bangalore, Jun 4: The Opposition BJP and JD(S) attacked the Congress government in Karnataka for its inability to control the warring factions in the State police department as the recent fracas over the alleged clicking of objectionable photos at a coffee shop in the city by ADGP Ravindranath with the image of the law and order machinery taking a severe beating.
Addressing separate press conferences, State BJP spokesman and former minister S Suresh Kumar and former chief minister and JD(S) leader H D Kumraswamy contended that State Home Minister K J George has completely failed in reigning in the warring police officers, especially ADGP Ravindranath and City Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradakar.
The government has not been able to tackle a small incident which could have been solved in two seconds. George was unfit to continue in the office as he was failed to maintain discipline in the police force, the JD(S) leader alleged.
The JD(S) blamed the Congress government and three BJP MPs elected from the City for the present garbage crisis in the City.
BJP leader Suresh Kumar said the allegations and counter-allegations among police officers and the resignation as well as demands for his arrest by Ravindranath had made the police force into a laughing stock.
Kumaraswamy said State Government’s irresponsible decisions and neglect of the City by newly elected BJP MPs led to the garbage problem.
Laxity on the part of the officials in the Urban Development Department and the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) also contributed to the problem, he said.
To stop protests by communities residing around Mandur, section 144 has been clamped. Police arrested several people to end agitation. Chief Minister Siddarmaiah has failed to keep his promise on clearing the garbage issue soon after he was sworn in.
Though technology was available for recycling the waste into energy and compost, the BBMP officials paid little attention to set up plants, he alleged.
Meanwhile, he said the JD(S) will be fielding its own candidate in the ensuing Rajya Sabha polls from the State.
Kumaraswamy said the JD(S) would not support a candidate of other political parties as it has 40 members in the assembly and would be short of 5 votes, which can be easily managed.
"We will announce the candidature of our party in two-three days," he said.
Elections would be held on June 19 for the 4 Rajya Sabha seats from the State.
