Dubai : Stage set for 'Manishaada' Yakshagana - Artistes arrive

Daijiworld Media Network - Dubai

Dubai, Jun 4 : Yaksha Mitraru, a dedicated group of Yakshagana enthusiasts residing in Dubai, who present Yakshagana shows every year to provide a treat to lovers of this traditional art form in the UAE, are once again set to entertain the audience on Friday, June 6 at Sheik Rashid Auditorium, 4.30 pm onwards.

This time, Yaksha Mitraru will present 'Maanishada', a historical Kannada Yakshagana written by Purushottama Poonja, with Chende by Padmanabha Updhyaya and playback Bhagavata by Dinesh Ammannaya and Satish Shetty, and costume and make-up by Lakshman Kumar Marakada and Gangadhar D Shettigar.

The Yakshagana will be performed by the local talents along with visiting artistes. The artistes from Mangalore were welcomed by Yaksha Mitraru at Sharjah Airport on Wednsday June 4 early morning. Dinesh Shetty and Sudhakar Thumbay were present at the airport to welcome the artistes.

"There is tremendous interest among the UAE people hailing from coastal districts. Though it is a challenge to organise a show like Yakshagana in Dubai, with the efforts of the dedicated members of Yaksha Mitraru and co-operation from visiting artistes, we have been able to successfully host such events each year," says Dinesh Shetty of Yaksha Mitraru.

"This year, Yaksha Mitraru is celebrating its 11th year. Its contribution to the field of Yakshagana in this part of the world has been highly appreciated," said another Yakshagana artiste and member Sudhakar Thumbay.

To reach out to maximum number of Yakshagana lovers, the ticket has been fixed at a nominal price of AED 25.
