Congrats to Gold Detector and scanning Machines installed at the
Mangalore Airport. These machines are doing very good job and helping
Airport customs department. There isn't much human intelligence involved in catching gold smugglers at the Mangalore Airport.

Most of these people caught hail from Kasargod Dist or Bhatkal and coming from Dubai. Surprisingly not from Qatar / Bahrain / Abu Dhabi / Muscut or Kuwait. The CBI should find out who is ultimately taking possession of the Gold in Kasargod / Uppala / Mangalore ?

If the catch rate is 1 in 100, imagine how much would have been smuggles so far.

Please do not argue on catch rate, becuase everyday some or the other is smuggling fealessly means these guys (or their friends) are successful in thei earlier attempts

The Union government has to bring out a solution to avoid such a menace. The way it was proposed in Year 1991. There should be a reasonable allowance of gold for male and female passengers in term of weight and hopefully this problems will be resolved.

Jamil, reasonable allowance already there..evethough custom book says only 50-60thsnd worth gold can be brought, many people where nearly 2 lacs worth gold say chain, bracelet, bangles, rings so on..customs will not object for that or rarely object..but look at the above case, its in Kgs..which country in world allow to bring Gold in Kgs without Govt tax!! its a day light smuggling..this not for personal use,its for commercial purpose..

It is advisable to put up a big hoarding/arch in the entrance road of airport in Karambar reading like this:WELCOME TO GOLDEN AIRPORT MANGALORE.
Bringing gold is welcome as it will enhance the status of the family of the person bringing gold into the country.Let there be some laws in place by way of charging nominal taxes.Govt should look into it.

Recent News -Quote..."On May 10, 11 kg of confiscated gold and 35 kg of silver were stolen from the sales tax office at Vyapar Bhawan near the Delhi Police headquarters at ITO."...Unquote. At least these passengers are buying gold from their hard earned money and bringing it down, but what about our most corrupted Govt.officials... The above is may be one of the case, there may be many.... any answer..?

Amazing. In spite of daily catch, people from Kasargod finding out various innovative method to smuggle gold into the country through Mangalore International Airport. What is their ides and logic behind it?Do they think that Mangaloreans are so fool to let them go free from the airport.Crazy people.Ban all those people from going abroad and bring bad name to the country especially Mangalore.Shameless people. Now it appears that some strong hand is involved behind this international gold racket. These poor people are the victims of this racket.Whatever be the reason, confiscate their passport and ban them going abroad.Hats off to Mangalore custom officials, who keep their eagle eye on these smugglers.

Will you be shocked if they remove the TIBIA, main bone in the lower leg and replace it with Golden one!!!
Arrange to preserve the Tibia, go back from India on a Crutch and replant the Tibia at source!!!

I will not be surprised if Kasargod passengers find a way to do this kind of smuggling. They are so innovative.
Highly unlikely though, but they seem to be so desperate to smuggle GOLD, the ever precious metal, even at the cost of losing their job...
