Mangalore, Jun 2: An Omni that was reportedly being used to illegally transport a cow rammed into a two-wheeler at Majalthota, Munnur in Ullal near here on Sunday June 2. As people gathered at the accident spot, the driver of the Omni escaped leaving the vehicle behind.
Gattikudru resident Rolan who was riding the two-wheeler, and his wife Sunita who was riding pillion, were injured in the accident.
The brand new Omni that was yet to get registration number, was being used to transport a cow reportedly stolen from Fajir Govanitashraya. On the way to Thokkottu, the driver lost control and rammed into Rolan and Sunita who were riding from Kuthar to Eliyarpavau.
Rolan and Sunita who sustained injuries were admitted to a hospital in Thokkottu.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Omni tried to get the animal out of the vehicle and tie it up. Just as he was doing so, locals began to gather at the spot. Fearing that he would be caught, he fled from the spot and managed to escape.
The Ullal police arrived at the spot and took the Omni and the animal into their possession.
Officials from Fajir Govanitashraya Trust also came to the spot and said that the theft had taken place when the cattle at Govanitashraya were left to graze. A complaint was filed in this regard in Ullal police station.
The Omni was being driven by one Abdul Khader who was transporting the cow to a slaughter house at Chembugudde, said eyewitnesses.
