Mumbai, Jul 11: The St Peter’s Association (Barkur) Mumbai, celebrated their patron’s feast on Sunday July 9. Fr Henry D’Souza, executive secretary, Catholic Bishops' Conference of India, offered the festal Mass in St Victoria Church, Mahim here.
Richard Carvalho, president of the association, presided over the programme held in the St Victoria High School hall.
Fr Henry called upon the gathering to cherish and nourish the family values and also ignite the same spirit in the younger generation. He praised the migrants from Barkur for keeping their unity intact and also gave a call to alleviate the disadvantages of other sections of the society. He also suggested that the records of their family roots be properly documented for the benefit of the future generations.
Vincent Almeida, former secretary of the association currently on employment in the US, was the chief guest.
Founder member and immediate past president Henry Roche and his wife Ida Rouche, were honoured by former president Felix Barnes, on the occasion.
Present as guests were Harry Rebello of Caravan, Harry Fernandes, assistant director of Hindi film ‘Anjaane’, and Lawrence Coelho, editor of Divo magazine.
Norbert Menezes, vice-president, S P Furtado, Antony Dias, treasurer, were present on the dais.
Ivan Suares, secretary, compered the programme. Ivan Rebello, honorary chief secretary, spoke about the association. Eric Carvalho introduced the guests while Joylan Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.
