Mangalore-Chennai railway corridor on the cards, says DVS

Bangalore, Jun 2 (Agencies & DHNS): Union Railway Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said on Sunday that his ministry was contemplating Mangalore-Bangalore-Chennai corridor to transport coal for electricity generation and ensure coastal connectivity.

At a press conference here, Gowda said the issue was discussed at a meeting with railway officials and former railway ministers on Sunday morning.

"I plan a Mangalore-Chennai freight corridor for west coast-east coast port connectivity via Bangalore and Hassan in the state. We have to work out the details with the state government and the union surface transport and shipping ministry," he said.

“I am for it, but when I can implement it is yet to be decided. This corridor, I am told, is needed for coal transportation. I am new to the ministry, give me 50 days to understand everything and prioritise what is needed,” he said.

Speaking about former railway minister M Mallikarjun Kharge’s proposal to increase fares, he said: “If I do not increase the fares, then media will criticise me saying that I am blocking Kharge’s decision. The BJP government is pro-people and all decisions will be taken keeping in mind the safety of and service to passengers, not political parties and individuals.”

Gowda said railway officials gave him a list of Karnataka’s demands during the meeting. “I would have to use the entire railway budget to meet the state’s demands. Or it will take another 50 years to improve rail connectivity in Karnataka as there are many demands and problems, especially the Bangalore-Mysore track doubling and electrification. So, I will prioritise according to what the state needs immediately.”

He said that because of increasing number of accidents, a technical committee comprising experts like former Delhi Metro managing director E Sreedharan was being formed. The Railway minister stressed that e-ticketing is the need of the hour. There is a huge rush at all stations to get a morning train ticket. There are many racketeers making brisk business. To address this menace, a new software will soon be launched, he said.Sub-urban rail

During its regime in the state, the BJP had proposed for a sub-urban rail network, with 50 per cent partnership by the state government. Bangalore has four radial routes (running directly from the city centre to outer areas) connecting all the four sides of the City. This should be prioritised in the railway budget, said an official from Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Ananth Kumar's office. Kumar was present at the meeting Gowda held with railway officials.

Interestingly, Gowda made it a point to visit former railway minister Jaffer Sharief at his residence in Bangalore and sought his suggestions. Sharief, who was the Congress MP from Bangalore Central is credited with modernising the railways, including converting railway lines into unigauge across the country.

We must increase activity of Mangalore to Chennai cargo trains and stop taking sea route via ceylon. Now we should understand that the sea route in Srilanka's Hambantota is handled by China which is very dangerous for our commercial activities to south east Asian countries like Indonesia, Singapore, Malasia and others. This way we can improve Sea port activities in Mangalore and Chennai. Going thro' Pak strait is not viable since it is low ground level and Hindus Pamban Bridge is coming between. All the cargo substances can be handled by train by containers, oil barrels, unique cargo carriers by train. I hope Indian Govt. takes a deep concern and make possible action immediately. This will save time and use of ship covering long distances. sriram

Let me Congratulate our New Railway Minister.Sir Have serious concern about the railway.First of all Smoking in Train has to be banned completely. Secondly Chennai has better access over the Bangalore but Mangalore though it is in the same State it has no access,These things has to be thought very seriously.I have seen there are many inefficient Station master who are very lethargic and lazy. From Hosur a local train which start from 8.15am will be halted hebbal minimum 45minutes so that The Duranto train will be missed most of the time. I have lodged complaint but no use.I happen to travel in howrah express from Banaswadi railway station to yeshwantput at 5.45 am but this train was not given entry 45 minutes in Yeshwantpur instead many other trains are given entry. The result was I could not board the Mangalore train.

When I complained I have understood that there is instruction from the Railway minister not you previous one.Sir why can't you go for automatic first come first serve basis. There are lot you could do and improve the railway. I pray Almighty God to give you wisdom and courage to do the justice to the common people. I pray Mr. Mode our PM so that he will give us the good governance. His slogan was good days are coming. You will do the justice to Mangalore- Bangalore Train facility and Mangalore. Even Mangalore - Mumbai Train facility has to be improved I mean the travel time has to be reduced. Similar in case of Bangalore and mangalore. Thank you sir.

Congrats to new BJP Shri.DVS as Railway Minister. Sir your new Mangalore-Chennai freight corridor under process.
Sir as regular passengers to SBC- Chennai and return by convenient Brindavan SF Express 12639/12640 now last 2 years changed its permanent 60-years Slot Timings & slow down Speed to 58 kmph from 62 kmph (like Lalbagh-Exp).
Also Dep.Station delay 5-10 minutes & all the way 30-50 minutes deliberately Slowing Down Speed & stopping non-schedule stops. Example Krishnarajapuram to SBC 20 minutes but takes 1 hour simply stopping at Baiypanahali Station 30 minutes just waiting for Karnataka Express DLI-SBC Late Running daily. Instead Brindavan from KJM to Cantonment proceed straight without stopping Baiypanahali station & reach SBC Before 1.30 pm. and same Train 12640 Return Dep: 2.30 pm its Original Timings SLOT instead of changed to 3.10 pm due to new DOUBLE DECKER TRAIN. For this Brindavan Reaching 9.15 pm at MAS & when Late reach 30-45 minutes then PUBLIC TRANSPORT very difficult @ that time Sir please note.
Also changed Brindavan Coaches & now 1 year plus all Old Dirty Outdated 24 SR coaches (can inspect condition at SBC-Station afternoon)instead for Brindavan from 20 coaches. SIR if YOU Arrange to SWR this Brindavan then sure to get 1 Rake New Coaches.
Sir, BRINDAVAN BOTANICAL GARDEN is Touristic Destination in Mysore is our KANNADIGA PEOPLE'S PRIDE. Therefore named this Train on 1-10-1964 Brindavan Express was Fastest Train in India covering 5 hours 3-Stops but now slow down to 6.10 hours 10-stops is very strange and removed 3AC CC for DD-train. Also reduced Reserved Coaches to 6 & raised 15 Unreserved Old Coaches.
Sir, Pls allot for 1 set new Rakes under Your SWR-Division immediately & SWR maintains cleaned Coaches like its other trains (Coz SR is major hub busy).
Sir Pls Do Something to Speed-up this train & avoid Late running & allot its old timings and DD take present Brindavan timings for more Revenue instead running early.many thanx.

Maximum 12 trains per day in this proposed Railway Corridor due to bottle-neck at Shiradi Ghat. So,this will be totally non-viable.
Doubling of the Tracks in Shiradi Ghat is not possible due to environmental and Technical problems.
So this Chennai-Mangalore Rail corridor will never become a reality.

Modi stopped talking now, he realized ruling is very tough and he cannot implement any of his agenda like Price reduce, 370 section, Unique civil code, Ram Mandir etc. everything is impossible. Modi will escape from his responsibility very soon and he will become one more Kejriwal.

What is the use of this Railway corridor ? Because in one day you cannot run more than 12 trains to & fro in Shiradi ghat including Goods Trains, as each train takes about TWO HOURS to cross this Shiradi ghat spanning 50 Km. Unless Chikamagalur-Ujire-Mangalore new route is implemented Railway Corridor will be of no use. It will remain only on papers.
