Mangalore/Karkala, Jun 1: In a case of attempted theft reported in Moodbidri in the early hours of Sunday June 1, a businessman opened fire in the air and caught a miscreant who tried to break in and handed him over to the police.

It is said that at around 1.30 am on Sunday, miscreants tried to enter 'Ayesha Cottege', the residence of Bangalore-origin businessman Syed Shabbir. Hearing the creaking sound of the gate, Shabbir took out his licensed pistol and went out to investigate. Other people in the house too came out to see what was happening.

As they came out of the house, they saw one person trying to break in through the gate and three others standing beside him. When they switched on the light, the miscreants tried to flee and to stop them from escaping, Shabbir fired into the air. While the others managed to flee, Shabbir was able to catch one a little distance away from house. Shabbir reportedly pointed his gun at the man's temple and warned him against escaping. The miscreant was then handed over to Moodbidri police who came to the spot.

The miscreant who was caught was identified as Girish of Borkalgudde. During interrogation, it was learnt that he had come back from a foreign country a few months back, and on Saturday night, along with four others had gone to a bar in Moodbidri where they ate and drank so much that the bill came up to Rs 2,700. In a state of drunkenness, they planned to commit the theft at Shabbir's house, police sources said.

As Girish was drunk at the time of the incident, the police let him off the same night. However, on Sunday, Shabbir came to the police station and demanded his re-arrest, after which the police took caught Girish again and took him to Shabbir's house for identification of the crime spot.Further investigations are on.

We are in a place where Goondas at Police department and Innocent people at Jail or encounter, I Think Shabbir made a wrong decision to shoot at air instead of Girish. It would have been good lesson to the people who do "drink and crime".

BJP govt in the center yes, but state govt is still congress. As long as Abhaya is there as MLA, people of moodbidri need not fear. He will personally go on night rounds.

Oh yes Mr. Prabhu, we should pardon girish along with Nirbhaya's rapists because they were also drunk and didn't know what they were doing. What a pity they got Death Penalty! You should fight against the court verdict of Nirbhaya rapists because they deserve sympathies too from people like you.

Bravo police. Easy life for cops, criminal caught and let off same night. What about the other two, now they are free to commit more and more crime. Business man should have fired one bullet on the leg instead of firing in the air. What a waste.

Crime happens irrespective of who is in power . Bribes , favorism happened even in congress rule . So u being a educated person should blindly blame a govt or a party for this kind of incidents. I agree its a mistake from the police side to let go this person but u cant just blame without knowing who are tghe people involved what happened. the inspectors should be suspended.

Sincere apologizes for the last line, not to hurt anybodies sentiments, but some where felt a smell of caste and religion and this only has in BJP not in Congress or AAP. how ever we both are far away from our country we get this very important news by a beautiful news module Daiji, and hope we get further info on this too. lets wait and see.

Well appreciate your gesture ... and Bradaa casteism was under the rule of congress too . All politicians do is divide and rule they do have to favour someone so that they make sure too grab all votes atleast from one particular caste or religion. anyway i too feel happy to get news from here being away from my country . May good things happen .. God Bless

Why Shabbir a wasted the bullet! If the criminals can left off on the same night by giving bribe or finding them drunk state, every criminal should drink.
There should be no room for criminals in India..
