Dubai, Jun 1: Konkani drama lovers were in for a double treat on Friday May 30 with Vamanjooreans UAE staging two superhit dramas, both of which received wide applause and appreciation from the packed audience at Sheik Rashid auditorium.
The first drama 'Kazarachi Dhotorne', enacted by local artistes, spread a laughter riot in the audience, while the second, the popular, award-winning drama 'Chintnen, Sobdhan ani Karnen' written by renowned playwright, the late MickMax, proved to be massive hit that had the audience glued to their seats in rapt attention throughout.
Prior to the dramas, the evening began with a brief stage programme with the MC of the show, the charismatic and lively Roshan D'Silva making a grand entry. After a prayer song, the dignitaries on the dais, namely Vamanjooreans UAE president Johnson Monteiro, main sponsor Jerald and Roopa Lobo Vamanjoor, sponsor Lawrence Mendonca, actor Roshan M Kamath, and MickMax's brother Edwin D'Souza lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the inauguration of the event.
A two-minute silence was observed prior to the staging of the first drama 'Kazarachi Dhotorne' in memory of the late M P D’Sa who wrote the play.
Directed by talented Stephen Menezes, 'Kazarachi Dhotorne' evoked laughter among the audience with its simple but engaging plot and superb comic timing. The drama was performed by UAE-based artistes namely Jochim D’Souza, Stephen Menezes, Richard Saldanha and Godwin Castelino and others. The music was provided by Melroy D’Cunha and Vincent Fernandes Cascia.
Prior to the staging of the second drama 'Chintnen Sobdhan ani Karnen' a two-minute silence was observed in memory of the late MickMax who wrote the drama.
The award winning social drama was performed by well-known actors from Vamanjoor namely Denis Monteiro, who also directed the drama, Jerald Monteiro Mangalore, Sapna Crasta Assuntha Pais, Roshan M Kamath, Mario Roche and Denzil Fernandes. The performances were superlative, with each artiste spell-binding the audience with excellent acting and precise sense of timing and dialogue delivery. The drama highlighted the way modern lifestyle keeps people busy and affects bonding, leading to unfounded doubts and misunderstandings. Though a social drama, it was generously sprinkled with humour that added to its charm.
Vamanjoor's young music director and singer Royston Pinto provided the background music for the drama.
After the drama, the artistes were honoured with mementoes. Actor-director Denis Monteiro was felicitated by the Vamanjooreans with shawl, memento, bouquet and fruits. Acknowledging the honours, Denis Monteiro thanked the association members for their support in staging the drama and giving an opportunity to perform in Dubai. He also thanked the audience and the sponsors.
During the interval between the two dramas, a brief stage programme was held wherein the CD of new Konkani album 'Moga Naadh' by Francis Rodrigues was released by Walter Nandalike of Daijiworld, along with Joseph Mathias of Merit Fright Systems, musician Thushara and singer Monica Valdar.
Addressing the gathering, Vamanjooreans UAE president Johnhson Monteiro appreciated and thanked the members of the association for their efforts in staging the twin dramas. He further spoke of the financial aid extended by Vamanjooreans UAE to assist the needy back home and said that the proceedings from the twin dramas too would go to the Vamanjoor parish to support educational and medical needs of the underpreviliged.
He also thanked the sponsors and the audience for supporting the event. Artistes of the first drama were honoured with mementoes by Jerald Lobo, advisor Vamjooreans UAE and Johnson Monteiro. The sponsors and the media persons were also recognized for their support.
