Mangalore: Girl who secured 0 in PU paper, gets 70 after revaluation!

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, May 30 : Like every year, this year too there are incidents of errors in valuation and declaration of PU results. In an incident reported at Katipalla, Ramya, a student of Sri Narayana Guru PU College, who was declared failed with 0 mark in accountancy paper, applied for revaluation. As it turns out, she not only passed, but even secured a first class!

There are several instances where students undergo mental stress when they get unexpected results in the examinations. Ramya too went through a similar situation after learning she secured no marks for her hard work and even for what she knew were correct answers.

What added to her agony was the fact that she did not receive the photocopy of her answer sheets on time from the PU board (There is an option in Karnataka to apply for photocopy of answer sheets for a nominal fee). Hence she was forced to apply for re-examinations. But, thanks to the principal of college who had faith in Ramya's ability, he pushed for revaluation of accountancy paper. On Thursday, May 29 the college received the revaluated marks.

Earlier Ramya had scored a total of 349, now she has been declared first class with 419 marks, and in accountancy paper, she scored a solid 70!

The new difficluty she is facing is of admission, as all major colleges have closed their admissions for degree courses.

    Dear Reader,
In my opinion the teacher who corrected Ramya's accountancy paper is already dead and his name is written on the gate of "Hell". How come on earth he can give Zero marks and play with sentiments of young innocent student. God will punish such criminal character. May God bless Ramya and grant her success in her endeavor. Ramya be strong and positive.

Congrats and Justice done!! Now the next thing for colleges of Repute to do is give her admission to degree classes. It is of no use to say we are the best colleges in Mangalore (Maybe St Agnes/St Aloysius can take the lead)and ignore this injustice of University. Daijiworld can take up this matter with reputed colleges. Maybe somewhere closer Govindas College Suratkal if that is what the student wants.

Congratulations Ramya. You did the right thing. Probably it is easier to ask for revaluation now but it was not the case when I passed out in '77.
My favorite subject was Statistics and I used to teach my fellow students. The exam was very easy and I was hoping to get close to 95 but what I got was 35. When I approached my professor, he told me not to bother to send for re-correction as it was never carried out properly in those days. He did advise me to believe in yourself and you will succeed. Yes. today, I can say that I have succeeded in every respect.

I think our education system though has improved, the correction system still seems to be lagging behind. The entire correction system needs to overalled and any teacher/professor who err on correction should be dismissed as they play with the lives of students.

Good she kept cool and now she has the result first class.congrats.many times we hear in media that children/students commit suicide because of less marks or failed.Thats why parents also have to consider this and think over about revaluation of marks.that can save many lifes in future.Committee should think over whom they are electing to valuation of marks sheet.

I think this is a mistake from the administration side i.e. staff who are inputting the data into system. They must have totally missed to input her marks into data base system. And she must have scored 70 in the original valuation itself.

Otherwise how come on earth someone could give Zero marks? Not even 1 !

This is not the first time that such an incident has happened for sure. I too was a victim of such misfortune when i was given just 17/70 for my first year degree -physics paper and so a failed result was issued to me. but after revaluation it turned out to be 51/70 and a first class mark too. As we were allowed to see the original paper,we found that only the 1st and the last pages were corrected and the pages in the center just cut out with a cross mark by the lazy evaluator who wanted to complete his job fast.
Let us hope such incidents do not happen again.

Many students including my son & many of his friends applied for the photocopy of the answer sheet by paying Rs 504/- per paper. But unfortunately the papers did not come on time. All the money is gone. As he could not wait any longer to verify, he then applied for revaluation by paying Rs 1200/- per paper. I believe there is a racket going on to make money by the education authorities by wrongly evaluating the papers. Considering the number of students appear for the exams and the unhappy students applying for the copy of the mark sheet and revaluation, crores of Rs are coming into the treasury. In my opinion the people should raise their voice and protest. All the teachers who have wrongly evaluated should be held accountable and penalized.

If this is possible then why not 0 be quoted as 70??

Nowadays education is totally commercialized and the only main criterion is earning money to all those in the business and the students are the sacrificial lambs!!

Just the other day there was a news report that quite a lot of dummy students (mostly poor) were detained for writing COMED-K exams for small incentives of 50k and free flight tickets and accommodation, and then surrendering the seats to the respective colleges who then used to sell the same in lakhs and crores!! If the managements themselves resort to such dubious acts in their greed to make fast money then how can one believe in marks granted by them??

In short, if there is money to throw anything and everything is possible!!!

    Jai Hind!!!

Many Congratulations Ramya & thanks to your College Principal for saving you from this humility. Negligence shown by teachers who have corrected papers could result in failures of students, at times extreme steps such as suicide could happen. Just to get few bucks more for correcting more papers in stipulated time, teachers could do such blunders..!!
This is also another way to earn little more money for re-valuation I opine.! Let the University find out who has corrected this paper and take stern action, am sure such incidents would be less next time.
