Mangalore, May 29: M N Rajendar Kumar was on Thursday May 29 re-elected president of South Canara District Central Co-operative (SCDCC) Bank, with members of the administrative board choosing him unanimously yet again.
Vinay Kumar Soorinje was elected the vice-president unopposed.
Rajendra Kumar has been serving as the president of the SCDCC board since 1994, and this is the third time in a row he has been elected unanimously.
For the new term in 2014, Rajendra Kumar had filed two sets of nominations, out of which one was accepted by the election officer MCC commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde.
Soon after he was declared the president of the SCDCC administrative board, Rajendra Kumar said, "The bank will open 11 new branches in different places within a span of 38 days from June 16. in a historic gesture to mark the centenary celebration of the Bank."
He assured that Rupay cards will be distributed to the farmers and customers of the Bank at the earliest. The card holders can swipe it in any bank located across the nation. The Bank earlier had introduced mobile banking which was useful to many. "I will continue to work in the same spirit for the next five years as the president of the Bank," he added.
When he began his term as the president in the year 1994, the deposit of the bank was only Rs 64 crore. Currently the deposit has shot up to Rs 2,012 crore. This remarkable achievement has enabled the SCDCC Bank create a niche for itself among the top co-operative banks in the country.
