Dubai, May 29: Shahwik Diwakar Shetty, a student of class nine, studying in the Indian High School, Dubai recently won the Shaikh Hamdan Award for Academic Excellence in UAE by the Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Makhtoom, the deputy ruler of Dubai. He is the son of Diwakar and Savitha Shetty who hail from Padubidri and have settled here.
Shahwik won the Spell Bee 2006-07 and the “Look Who’s Answering” Quiz 2007; he also secured the first place in the Maths Quiz, won platinum certificate in Beati Watani and Enviro Spellathon, secured first place in Hindi and English creative writing contests.
His poems and articles have been published in various platforms. He had actively participated in UAE’s Plant- for the Planet Academy.
Shahwik is a member of the Core Group and also holds the post of campaign officer at Green Hope UAE, a youth environmental organization working for sustainable development.
He was the captain of the U-13 cricket team in 2011 and was recognized as the Most Promising Player of the UK 2012 International Cricket Tournament; he won the best bowler of the tournament award in UK Tour 2013 and was recognized as the youngest and the only player to play for the U-13, U-16 and U-19 teams against international teams. He captained the team that won the IPL that was held at the Indian High School and was awarded Player of the Tournament; he has won certificates in drawing and calligraphy.
He initiated the art of tissue drawing. He is the member of EEG –Green Crusader, International Youth Council and Green Hope UAE.
