Bangalore, May 28 (DHNS) : Additional Director General of Police (KSRP), P Ravindranath, who has been accused by a freelance journalist of capturing her pictures on his cellphone at a coffee shop on Cunningham Road, on Tuesday alleged that it was a conspiracy by Bangalore Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar and other senior IPS officers to defame him.
The official said that he has resigned from the service following the allegations and requested Home Minister K J George to conduct an investigation into the episode as he has been targeted by a senior IPS officer. However, George said the question of Ravindranath resigning from service did not arise as there was neither a complaint nor a case against him. “I have directed DG&IGP L R Pachuau to submit a report,” he said.
Ravindranath, a 1990 batch IPS officer, told reporters: “Auradkar made false allegations that I had links with Naxals when he was DIG (Intelligence) and I was DIG (Economic Offences). The inquiry did not establish the allegation. He is now using a woman to target me.” When contacted, Auradkar refused to comment.
Top sources said the government had plans to replace Auradkar with Ravindranath as Bangalore police commissioner.
The woman in her complaint to High Grounds police on Monday stated that a man started capturing her pictures on his phone when she was inside the coffee shop with her friend.
The police registered cases under IPC Sections 354 (assault or criminal force against woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) against ‘an unidentified person’ as the complaint did not mention the accused’s name.
The police are likely to submit a report to the court soon mentioning Ravindranath’s name.
Bangalore: FIR against IPS officer for clicking pictures of a woman
Bangalore, May 27 (PTI): An FIR has been filed against a senior IPS officer for allegedly outraging a woman's modesty after he tried to click her pictures on his mobile phone at a coffee shop here.
P Ravindranath, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), was booked under IPC Sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) late last night, DCP (Central) Ravikante Gowda told PTI.
The woman called the High Grounds police after she saw Ravindranath clicking objectionable photos of her on his mobile.
In her complaint, she alleged that Ravindranath was clicking objectionable photos on his mobile camera, Gowda said.
However, the IPS officer said he done nothing of that sort. "There was a man sitting on the first floor who snatched my phone and alleged that I was clicking photos of the girls in the coffee shop. But I didn't do anything of that sort," Ravindranath told reporters.
Gowda said the accused would be arrested if the need arises.
