Bahrain, May 27: It was a special day for the Konkani lovers of Bahrain as the '6th Lancy Moras Konkani Musical Nite' enthralled nearly 1,200 people packed in Our Lady of Arabia auditorium. The event was organized by ‘Konkani Kutam’ of Bahrain in association with the Konkani Community of Sacred Heart Churchin aid of a new Cathedral at Awali, Bahrain.
The long awaited musical nite began with the internationally acclaimed master of ceremony Ronald Olivera, who flew in from Dubai, introducing Lancy Moras for the first time in Bahrain. The houseful audience cheered melodious Lancy, who flew in from Saudi Arabia, as he came on the stage with his first meaningful song ‘Gavncho Ugdas’.
As the audience waited with cheerful eagerness, fabulous up-and-coming singer Vanessa Saldanha from Dammam, Saudi Arabia, who was introduced by Lancy on Konkani stage for the first time, won the praise of the audience as she sang the melodious love song ‘Toon Ye Lagin’. Moushmi Moras, daughter of Lancy Moras left the audience spellbound with her lovely voice as she sang a unique number ‘Pondra Vorsan’.
The local singers like the evergreen Sydney Correa, Melba Martis, Rony Fernandes, Christopher Lobo, Richard Pais, Tina D’Souza, Melisa Martis, Adeline Alva and the young charming boy Shreyal Vaz added charm to the evening with their enchanting voices. Every song was awesome and the audience stood on their feet to applaud them. The flawless music was organized by Harmonics led by Joseph and ably supported by Paul Solomon, Shamsuddin, Vinu, Francis George and Vivian.
Rib-tickling comedy skits by ‘Pokri group’ were enjoyed by one and all. The comedy trio of Stany D’Souza, Sujay Pinto and George Menezes were accompanied Gracy Pais, Nirmala Fernades, Alwyn Alva and Maxim D’Souza.
The entire stage was rocked by four different dances by the charming local children and youngsters like Darren Sequeira, Joel D’Souza, Orville Sequeira, Rowyn Fernandes, Susan Sequeira, Halaura D’Souza, Riya Castelino, Riya Pinto, Jovita D’Silva, Evita Castelino, Clarina D’Costa, Halona Dantis, Joanna D’Souza, Shania Dantis, Nikitha Fernandes, AshelCastelino, Ashlin Alva, Ayona Rodrigues, Sophia D’Souza, Rachel D’Souza, Stefany Fernandes, Ajay Lobo, Lorin Sequeira, AncelBenis, Deorra Fernandes, Alwyn D’Souza and Sharmila Sequeira. The professionalism of the choreographers Ajay Lobo and Rensilla Fernandes was evident in the dances. Ajay and Rensilla were assisted by Dolly Alva, Ruby Alva, Nirmala Fernandes, Sandra Castelino, Sandra Alvares Stella Fernandes, Devina and Lavina D’Souza. Muriel Gomes was the coordinator for the dances.
The short stage programme was presided over by Fr Freddy D’Souza, the spiritual director and assistant priest of Sacred Heart Church, Bahrain in the presence of Fr Ding and ably conducted by the MC Ronald Olivera. The committee members of Konkani community of Sacred Heart Church Freddie D’Souza, Francis Correa and the working committee members of ‘Konkani Kutam’ Ronald Fernandes, Stany D’Souza, Walter Noronha, Sanjay Sequeira led by Henry Almeida were on the dais.
Lancy Moras was honoured by Fr Freddy with a shawl, bouquet and a memento. Also honoured during the stage programme were Vanessa Saldanha, Moushmi Moras and the MC Ronald Olivera.
Shankar Jattana was given a special memento for his dedicated service as make-up artist for the past several years for almost all Konkani programmes. Lancy’s wife Hilda Moras too was recognized with a bouquet during the occasion.
Freddie D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. Lucky draws were conducted and the prizes were distributed to the lucky winners.
The entire four-hour fun-filled event was anchored by Ronald Olivera in his own unique, humorous and flawless style.
