Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (NM)

Mangalore, May 27: A youngster died in an accident near Handelu in Puttige, Moodibidri on Sunday May 26 evening.

The deceased, identified as Wilson Misquith (18), was a resident of Kaikamba.

It is said that on Sunday evening, he was out on a joy ride with his friends on his bike, when near Handelu circle, another bike moving at a high speed from Mangalore to Moodbidri hit his bike. However, another source said that Wilson was speeding and was also on the wrong side when he hit the other bike. He was not wearing helmet, eyewitnesses said.

The impact was such that two youngsters including Wilson got thrown off the bike and were seriously injured. They were rushed to a hospital in Mangalore where Wilson passed away later in the night.

Wilson had recently finished his PU studies from St Joseph's PU College, Bajpe and was pursuing a technical course.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday May 28 at 4 pm in Our Lady of Pompei Church, Gurpur Kaikamba.

A case has been registered.

Dear Jacintha, Middle East what you observed cannot be more true looking around in Mangalore today. But to this tragic situation, I would also like to add another major factor i.e., the pathetic condition of our roads.

Anyways, one more precious life is gone.

It is so difficult for the parents to bear the loss of their loving son. Now-a-day's teenagers do not understand. Young blood keeps on boiling. Parents should advice their children saying that parents are waiting for them at home. Due to bike accidents so many young lives are gone with the wind. Even my friend lost her 24 years old son in Feb 2014. Her condition is still not normal. Now-a-days one child concept you see. Very Very hard for the alive people to bear the loss. May his soul rest in peace. Amen.

A very sad day, especially for the parents who have lost their dear child. My sincere condolences to the parents and other family members.
I would like to mention here that if possible do condole the death of the child, talk good things here and try to console the parents. Just imagine what the parents are going through. This is not the time for us to criticize or judge the parents who have just lost their son.

Just reading of this article is enough to alert parents. Please do not be harsh in your words to them, who are we to judge others and come to conclusions?

We in Mangalore, compete for gloss. Flaunt everything you have. Use all means to flaunt - money, body, children, wealth.

    Our houses - competition
    Our functions - competition
    Our culture/attire - competition
Now our 'speed to get there' is the competition.
Boys and girls, barely cross the driving license eligible age, one can see them driving CARs (mind you - the large one). Bikes, scooties are a given.

It is not much that the children ask, it is the parents restlessness to show-off - announce to the world that 'they have arrived'.

We do not compete for excellent jobs - we have Dubai.
We do not compete for merit seats - we have the muscle to pay capitation fee.
We do not compete to keep our culture authentic - we are anglicized.

I don't think we need to blame children, they are children and they behave as per their age. It is the parents - who had wonderful role models in their own parents, yet have thrown it all away and are behaving like spoilt big brats.

Who is losing? Children coming from saner families are victims - peer pressure.
Pedestrians or other travelers on the road, because a reckless fellow normally harms a few others before harming self.

So many accidents have been happening in Mangalore, yet the parents do not learn? Have we shut our eyes and ears completely? Has PRIDE and dovloth blinded us to destruction?

Our functions give unlimited drinks - youth throng the open bar - who is facilitating their drinking habit? Even children from simpler families get into this due to peer pressure.

Unaccounted/unlimited money do not know, but a child of 12-13 holds a mobile and starts messaging.. where it may lead, we do not know.

But we have arrived - for good/bad.

Rest in Peace little young man, may your family have the strength to bear the loss, may god grant them the grace.

I am very sure he didnt even have a Licence . To be a Licence Holder you need to complete 18 years .when he has just completed PUC , I still wonder whether he had completed his 18 years to have a driving licence in his hand.

We the people blame the authorities ,traffic police etc that there are no proper roads , signals etc but how many of us have made an attempt to wear an helmet . Youngsters feel wearing an helmet is a burden on their head without realising when and where an helmet can save your life. .

I agree parents have to think before giving bikes, but same time I can tell that for hard for parents neglecting or accepting demands of children, wealthy person think I have to grow my child well highest way, may sometime they have wealth without asking, parents gift or asking they provide for children and poor person don’t have and son telling he have why I not, sometime stubborn children, forcible way parents has to provide their demand may its from loan, so what can say about it. Here wealthy people must think that because of their choice what about suffering poor people their tears may not….
25 years ago my son 7th standard ,also saying about pocket money, my classmate bring 200 – 500 why I not?
Now a day's expensive world people have less kids may 1 or 2, if only one and if happen like these than how those parents will accept like these tragedy?
This is young boy lost life.I don’t know its mistake of parent or boy or …but parents broken too heavy price for them accepting

With his young age, I am sure he must have been a good God fearing youngster and would have easily been received by the good Lord into his heavenly garden from where he can pray for special blessings for his sad parents , relations and friends .
    HOWEVER
Whether one likes it or not…….parents in Mangalore, South Kanara, Udipi etc should put their foot down and refuse bikes/scooters for their children no matter what tantrums they may resort to. Our roads are not straight and perfect and their surfaces not smooth with full of potholes even in main highways or trunk routes. Knowing this very well the police authorities must bluntly refuse to give license to anyone below 21 to ride a bike., and if any youngster below that age is caught riding bikes his parents should be fined with a hefty sum say Rs 20,000/- minimum.
I thank my late Mother for bluntly refusing to buy a bike…and we managed very well…and that is why I feel I am still living peacefully even though much later in Chennai I met with a bike accident facing a bus which was overtaking another at a curve

RIP to Wilson, condolences to his family I could feel the loss of a young child in front of them.
Generally (not for this incident so do not quote this statement for an argument)
I would say only one thing that parents are responsible for such incidents…….. As today’s world is on express mode & kids are faster than we all parents can imagine. “Right thing at right time” my father was saying at all time & I have got the minimum in my life what I have asked him for, at the time. I was not recognizing his intentions as well as impacts on fulfilling my needs on demand but today I realize being a father of a son I have been alive because of his right decisions.
Parents please do not think at any time (accept good food & Habits)
“We have not got in our life let our kid have it”
“Our neighbor sons have this why not our son we are so wealthy”
“His son is doing that my son also should do it”

Think about your sons & his safely first nothing else. Do not compare others they might be don’t worry about their kids as they might have so many but I believe your kid would be precious for you so HANDLE WITH CARE

I hate these bikes, how many lives specially youths lost from that.
Youths enjoy riding, it is like fun, forgetting about own precious life and about parents dream to their children well being, it is sad front of parents loosing life, instead of heaven children want their parents to be hell (Pain, sorrow…) It is very hard to accept, who went in this only know the pain,
May god give strength to overcome to parents to overcome this tragedy,

    christine, manglore/kuwait,

you hate bikes? good.look at other angles also, an 18 year old kid joyriding without a helmet on the wrong side of the road.. isnt that a recipe for disaster, was he wearing anything that would keep him safe?

Elders should inculcate things about personal safety and road etiquette into young brains rather than just give a vehicle in their hands, I am yet to come across any learner wearing a helmet n learning to ride, all this expected and more will come.unless we start it at a personal level

I understand the tough situation the parents are undergoing. But I keep parents of the boy held responsible for this event. We the parents are responsible if our kids of such a small age group commit such mistakes. How a 18 years old guy got a bike for his joy ride. For that age group, even though they know how to ride a bike, they will not be matured enough for sudden decisions, escape while such critical moments, no control for the speed they drive... with all these incapabilities you send your kids to ride a bike, that also joy ride... this is what you are going to get if day is not of yours. Now nobody is under loss... it's you the own family. So, please have an eye on your children at this early young age. any single mistake or negligence of yours may lead for a worst moment of your life.

    R I P
Now a days people have less kids & to satiate their never ending demands parents give them bikes as well as scooters at the tender age of 12.
This is the consequence of believing our kids would ride safely rather than speeding & competing to show their friends their skills.
Be Safe & let others on road safe.

I strongly second the opinion expressed by readerwriter007/Pune above. I hold the parents of this boy solely responsible for Boy's untimely death. My father had a car when I was in college, and I used to wash and keep it clean in return for a short ride after the car wash. But I never got to take the car to my college in those days, in spite of pleading and getting angry at home. My father just plainly refused to let me drive the car to the college. Perhaps I am alive today because of his firm decision of not letting me take the car to the college those days. I too would have ended up like this Boy with my friends. Dear parents, as said by many people on this forum, please do not get carried away with your children's demands. Bury those unreasonable demands at the outset and put your foot down and say a BIG NO. At least you will not repent later like this boy's parents. Innocent life has been lost and I feel so sad about it.
