Bhatkal, May 27: In an incident that seemed straight out of a Bollywood flick, a woman on Sunday May 25 barged into a wedding hall and stopped the celebration midway, claiming that the bridegroom was her husband and they were married 11 years ago. The incident took place at Shirani Temple at Uttarakoppa village in Bhatkal.
Padma Sathish, a resident of KR Puram, Bangalore, hailing from Kargal of Shimoga, stormed into the marriage hall even as the function was going on, and declared, "I got married to him (bridegroom) 11 years ago. But now he is cheating me by getting married for second time." She demanded the that wedding be stopped.
The groom’s family tried to stop her, but she did continued to scream and attack the groom verbally. Subsequently, the arguments turned into a physical brawl between the two sides. The situation came under control only after the police reached the spot, reports said.
"I was married to Sathish, a resident near Jog Falls 11 years ago in Sigandur. Our marital life was good until two or three months ago, when he started leaving home frequently. Now, without my consent, he is getting married to a woman from Shirani," she said.
Padma filed a complaint with Murdeshwar police asking them to take action and stop the wedding. The police had assured her they would act according to law. SI Manjappa said that investigation was on.
Meanwhile, despite the dramatic interruption, the wedding went on with both families agreeing to ignore Padma's allegations. The bride too did not object to stay with Sathish.
