Mangalore, May 24: Temporary panic prevailed at Thokkottu here on Saturday May 24 as news of four persons dying in a rail accident spread like wildfire.

Media persons from Mangalore and surrounding regions rushed to the spot to cover the incident.

However, on checking, it came to light that not people, but four goats had fallen under a train.

Curious locals too gathered at the spot. It is not known yet if the goats belonged to someone or were stray.

It is said that the rumour spread after an elderly man at the spot told a person that he was informed about four people dying after being hit by train. The elderly man was reportedly misled by someone.

The railway police informed the Ullal police, who rushed to the spot.

The people who gathered at the railway track decided to make the most of the opportunity and took away the goats for a mutton feast.
