Government in a fix over power project at Niddodi

Bangalore, May 23 (DHNS): Despite having received clearance for setting up an Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) in the State, it appears that there is a difference of opinion within the government over setting up the same at Niddodi in Dakshina Kannada district.

With stiff opposition in the villages of Niddodi, Kallamundkur, Thenkamijar, Aikala, Mannabettu gram panchayats, Forest Minister Ramanath Rai on Friday reiterated that the government will not proceed further with the land acquisition in the region for the project.

“We will not go against the wishes of the people in the region. The land acquisition process will not be taken up without the consent of the local people,” Rai said.

However, when contacted, Power Minister D K Shivakumar said that the government was pushing for the speedy acquisition of land in the region.

“At a recent meeting with Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Karnataka received permissions required to set up an UMPP in the State. But the basic rider was to build the power plant at a location where coal is easily accessible.”

let's not listen to anybody, Rai nor abhavachandra nor khader nor Bava... nobody we should listen. we need Siddaramiah to if the project is called off. OR else it will be again a drama, these ministers are saying we are there... we will top ..etc etc.. and in parallel govt triggers foundation ceremony and all and proceed.

I request all the BJP MPs to do the right thing and fight for the people who elected them. Please get this health hazard called thermal power project at Niddodi cancelled. think of environmentally friendly projects like solar power plant. Also, let the locals be smart- build a small temple on that small govt. land- like the ministers do when there is a fear of losing their property to the projects like road expansion!!

Now that BJP came to power at center, we want to see whether Nalin n shobha can halt clearances given by central authorities for Niddodi power project. We want to see wht they do on nethravati river diversion issue at the central environment ministry. We want to see whether BJP will bring back black money stored abroad. we want to see whether they arrest dawood. We want to see whether they will arrest all UPA corrupt ministers involved in series of multicrore scams. If they dont arrest anyone caught in corruption cases then BJP is same as COngres

Why the State Govt. has step down from the Niddodi Power Project? its a very simple since it would be a Govt of India undertaking, so these state congress ruler won't get hidden benefit in that & they thought its all margin would go to NDA fund instead of UPA. It was UPA's dream project hence it should not be fruitfull to NDA, so congress govt in the state has left out the project. What an idea sirji!!! All is well....

    Rai,
There is an amount of sacrifice in benefiting the public at large.
Today all are boasting of the mangalore port and its achievement.
If this stand would have been taken there would be no port ,no airport and no Konkan railway or highway _17 .
If it is for the common good of the masses Go Ahead !

RAMANATH RAI was demanding separate TULUNADU in 2008-09 when BJP was ruling. But BJP did not bring any ill projects to region. In history of Karnataka, first time BJP organized Vishwa Tuluver Sammelana and included Tulu in schools as an academic subject.

It is dongis who are spoiling beattiful Tulunadu. They already snatched Nethravati river. But I question this Useless RAI, why are you silent now?

It was the BJP government under the leadership of Mr. Jagadish Shetter had sanctioned this project in his Budget. And as far as Nethravathi river diversion in the recent loka sabha election rallys in chickabellapur both congress and bjp leaders had promised for this move.

It is a Central Government project hence State Government can not scrap it by themselves.....
Now BPIans pls put pressure on government at the center to scrap it...
It is Nalin's baby now. He along with Yedy\hasmukh\shettrr can put utmost pressure and diffuse the situation.
We are going to get Electricity power from Gujarat projects and balance power with shock will come from Udupi\chickmagaluru constituency
