Mangalore, May 20: Amrit Paul, IPS, has been appointed the new inspector general of police (western range), according to sources.
The post had been vacant ever since the transfer of Pratap Reddy in March this year.
Though IGP and commander of ANF in Karkala, Seemanth Kumar Singh had been given the additional charge of IGP, he did not assume the post. Mangalore city police commissioner R Hitendra was the incharge IGP till now.
Amrit Paul, an IPS officer of 1995 batch, began his career in Bhalki (Bidar) in 1998, and went on to serve as SP of Udupi from June 2000 to July 2003, SP of Bidar from July 2003 to November 2004, assistanct IGP (crime) from November 2004 to August 2006, SP of Bellary till May 2008, and then as DIGP (internal security) in Bangalore from 2012.
