Mangalore: Man, woman found dead in University quarters

Mangalore, May 18: In a case of suspected suicide and murder, two persons, a man and a woman in their 50s, were found dead in a quarters at Mangalore University campus in Konaje near here on Sunday May 18.

The deceased have been identified as Tilaka (52) hailing from Subramanya and Ramappa (50), from Madikeri.

It is said that they might have committed suicide three days ago, but the matter came to light only on Sunday.

Both Tilaka and Ramappa worked as attenders in the University campus, but only Tilaka used to stay in the campus.

The incident took place in the quarters occupied by Tilaka.

It is said that Tilaka had separated from her first husband Praveen and had filed for divorce. Ramappa too was married and had children. Tilaka and Ramappa fell in love and he used to visit her often and stay in the quarters, sources said.

They had been missing for the last three days. On Sunday morning, Vasanth, who stays close by, sensed a foul smell emanating from the quarters and on checking, found the couple's bodies.

It is also suspcted that Ramappa may have killed Tilaka before committing suicide, as only his body was found hanging. There was a knife near the woman's body and blood splattered on the floor.

Police commissioner R Hitendra, DCP, ACP and other officials visited the spot and conducted investigations.
