Puttur, May 13: Two persons who were travelling by a two wheeler were killed after a truck moving towards Mangalore from Bangalore hit their vehicle from behind on Monday May 12. The two wheeler was being driven towards Uppinangady from Valalu in Bajathur village, and the accident occurred near Kootelu Bridge.

The deceased have been identified as Suhail (22) and Altaf (21), both from Enjiradka colony in Bajathur village. They were close friends. The truck which knocked them down sped away towards Mangalore without stopping to help the duo.

Both Altaf and Suhail were unmarried. Suhail was the son of Muhammed from Valalu. He is survived by parents, a brother, and five sisters. Altaf, son of Muhammed from Valalu, worked as salesman in a shop at Bangalore. He was on a visit to his native place. Altaf  has left behind his parents, two sisters, and five brothers.

A large number of youngsters gathered at the spot immediately after the accident, and staged a protest, demanding for the immediate detection of the vehicle which caused this accident. Uppinangady police who arrived on the spot promised to find out the killer truck and book its driver, after which the protest was withdrawn.

It took some time for the traffic on the national highway to resume.
