Mangalore, May 12: Though Dakshina Kannada was not among the top in the list of districts that excelled in the SSLC examinations, a girl from the city has done the city proud by securing a place among the toppers in the state in Kannada medium.
Lavanya, a student of Lourdes Kannada Medium School, Bejai, has bagged a rank in the state in Kannada medium.
She has scored a total of 611 out of 625, securing 97.76 percent.
She scored cent percent marks in mathematics and social studies, and 94 in science. In Kannada (first subject) she scored a remarkable 123 out of 125, and 95 and 99 out of 100 in languages I and II.
Lavanya is the daughter of Balasubramanya Padakannaya, a businessman, and Poornima, residents of Bejai.
Speaking to daijiworld, Lavanya said that she aims to pursue commerce and work in the banking sector. She also plans to do MBA.
Asked how she prepared herself, she said she would wake up at 5.30 am every day to study, and during exams, would get up at 4 am.
She did not attend any tuitions or coaching classes and studied on her own. "If you concentrate on the subject and listen attentitively to lectures in class, there is no need to go to tuitions," she said.
She gave credit for her success to her teachers and parents who supported and encouraged her.
Her father Balasubramanya said that he never forced her to study or put pressure on her to score well. "She herself would take interest and study every day. She used to refer several textbooks while studying. I expected her to get between 610-615 marks. She had even bagged the first rank in a general test conducted by a tutorial," he said.
