Mumbai, Jun 27: State Revenue Minister and former Sena leader Narayan Rane’s younger son Nitesh Rane’s car on Sunday night ran over a constable of the Khar Police station. A complaint was filed at the police station after which Nitesh Rane was released by the police on a bail of Rs 3000.
According to police, on Sunday evening around 9.15 pm, on the busy Carter Road at Bandra, a quarrel erupted between a BEST bus driver and the driver of an Indigo car. Due to the spat, the road was blocked. Eventually, the Khar police reached the site to ease the traffic. As constable Mahadeo S Jadhav was regulating the traffic movement, a Mercedes car which was being driven by Nitesh ran over the constable’s left leg, injuring him badly.
At the time the incident took place, a police convoy was also with Nitesh. Immediately, Mahadeo was rushed to the nearby Bhabha Hospital by the same police van for treatment of injuries to his leg.
Satish Shingate, Senior Police Inspector of Khar, said, “We had registered a case of rash and negligent driving against Nitesh under sections 279, 337,134 A and B. He was released on bail of Rs 3000 and further investigations are going on.”
Additional Police Commissioner said, “As the accident took place at night there was confusion whether it was Nilesh or Nitesh driving the car. It was cleared in the morning that Nitesh was driving the car and in the morning when he surrendered to the police station, was released immediately on bail.”
Police further said that the accident site is always jammed in the evening and due to erratic parking of vehicles there are problems created.
