Mangalore, May 8: Member of BJP state executive committee Srikar Prabhu has been expelled from the party for a period of six years for indulging in anti-party activities during the Lok Sabha elections.
In a press statement, the district BJP announced that Srikar Prabhu has been expelled by the state by the party on the recommendation of the district unit.
Moreover, the party has also removed noted advocate P P Hegde from his post as the chief of BJP National Security Cell for the same reason. He too has been relieved from all responsibilities of the party.
The BJP stated that he has been removed in the wake of some of the unexpected events that rocked the party during the elections.
The expulsion would be come into effect immediately as per the orders of state BJP president Prahlad Joshi, the party stated.
The decision to remove P P Hegde immediately from his post was passed by BJP state chief Raghunathrao Melkapure, stated the BJP press release.
Though the party did not state the exact events that led to the decision, the move comes in the wake of the release of the controversial CD containing call records purportedly made by BJP MP Nalin Kumar Kateel to a woman for a protracted period of time. The CD had caused much furore, with cases being filed against Sudatta Jain and P P Hegde by Nalin Kumar for conspiring against him.
Reacting to the development, P P Hegde said that he was never a member of the BJP and the party had only asked him to take responsibility of its National Security Cell. "I do not care. I did not hold any primary membership of the party and hence there is no question of expelling me. I am in fact glad that I have been relieved of this responsibility. The local BJP leaders and full of jealousy, and even Nalin Kumar Kateel has no moral values. I supported him on the request of the BJP only because I want to see Narendra Modi becoming the Prime Minister," he said.
A highly placed source within the party told daijiworld that a discussion regarding Srikar Prabhu's continuation in the party had been held soon after the release of the CD. He had also been given a warning, the source said.
