Kasargod, May 7: Kumble police led by circle inspector Suresh Babu on Tuesday May 6 night arrested notorious thief Ukkas Basheer (40) at Moodbidri.

The arrested is an accused in more than 25 criminal cases. He was released one-and-a-half months ago from prison.  It is said that he committed several thefts even after his release.

The involvement of Basheer was known while questioning Jamya Moidu who was arrested by Badiadka police a few days ago. Basheer was released on March 22 after completing three-and-half years of prison sentence for several criminal cases. He is suspected to have committed four thefts after his release.

He is an accused in the theft of ten sovereigns of gold and a mobile phone from the house belonging to Peral Moidin at Kumble.

He had stolen cash from the donation box at the Talangare Taravadu temple, and laptop and bike from a house at Pilikunje. He is suspected to be involved in several thefts that occurred during the last one-and-a-half months.

Ukkas Basheer was produced in the court and remanded in judicial custody.

Jamya Moidu who was arrested after he tried to sell land with forged documents is suspected to have committed several thefts in Kasargod along with Ukkas Basheer.

It is said that Basheer had used Moidu's car to commit the thefts, and that the stolen goods were kept in his house.

Police have said that more such thefts may come to light if investigated.  It is said that Moidu and Basheer committed thefts in Kasargod, Vidyanagar and other places in the district.

Police were stunned when they went looking for Moidu's house.  He had a terrace house and a car parked in the yard.

Following information to the police that stolen items were stored in his house, a guard was assigned to keep watch on the house.

Let me narrate a story about this guy… once we had caught him!!
Incident is maybe 15-16 years old!! Fine day heard a shout from neighboring aunt ayyo snaaake!!
Being a self made hero how I will resist helping needy ..like superman jumped compound wall and reached the spot and saw a snake ..mind it was a big one …must be a kare havu! But kere or olle doesn’t make a difference to a fully film influenced super hero..i ran here there found on broken rod which was used for tv antenna !
Chasing snake with broken aim HIT it hard on the head alas snake is still moving ..aunts further shout one more cousin joined me ..now two killer one pray snake had top die…!! Poor thing..later hanging it in the rod me and cousin went to down compound to through the dead body of the snake to a plot were an empty house not buld since many years …after throwing the snake aside when turned back for our surprise ..We saw an unknown man standing at that unfinished house portico!!

Then what two heroes went near that man..and asked who are u from where u came AIIN !!with amithab style!! For that with unsure voice reply came I came here for natures call …further investigating started ..and it raveled man was walking in the railway track and going to his sister’s house….had to have natures call and he came here to perceive that..!! ohho…me and my mighty cousin thought how come this guy for natures calls walked nearly 500 meters from the railway track for just natures call!!That too its bushy bushy plot one cannot reach railway track without getting hurt!!
Then my cousin this guy must be a thief ..whispered on my ear!! My reaction Oohoo …onji kai thuka umben!!
Asked that guy were are u from where is your sister’s house for that no certain answer!!! Now my bell rang ..yess this is a thief!!me and cousin told that guy lets go to your sisters house..
Journey begins all three of us jumping the bush later reaching railway track….walking to an uncertain destination …Mr. thief is walking ahead on the track we two following after walking may be 1 km thief showed a hotel …and said ..I used to come to this hotel for food…for investigation n we reached the hotel and asked the man in counter do u know this guy .For that the cashier replied don’t know seeing this guy for first time!!! Hauu this guy is defiantly a thief budre balli umben!!

While coming out from hotel one more friend of my cousin joined our hunt…walk continues on the railway track…crossing the bridge …etc etc finally we asked where is your sister’s house …man said onthe dumbu…( little ahead) mind it we walked almost 4 -5 km on track…finally reaping questing and getting the same answer back we reached a house ….Again it was an empty house our man started calling kamalakka kamalakka are u inn!!
When we peeped inside house we saw nothing it appeared like that house was closed from months…!!
But our man is still calling kamallakka ollarye!! Noting all this surrounding people came

Noting all this surrounding people came and said this house is of a muslim family and recently a theft happened after it was closed down!!
Bodithhnda!! After hearing this…we saw the expression of the thief's face …no change its as same as before!! We three heroes thought it’s the time to show our fighting skill …I held the man cousing stated beating …later cousin held me and cousins friend started hitting him!! But out thief had no retraction!! Slightly blood is coming from his lips…but no expression change !!
Finally, we took him to the highway we dint know what to do …our thief ..without any shame ..pointing at a goodangadi …asked us can I get a tea !! we heroes still at house wears no money in the pocket to go back by bus too !! look at this shameless fellow asking for tea even after getting beaten!! Finally walked little further we saw thalapady check port we handed the thief to them ….looking at the man …gourd said …imbena imben sumar dinadd enkul nadondulla imbe rustom..kalve.!( ie: this guy is a known thief and we were searching him since long). Finally, we handed him over and asked little money from a known shop fellow ..came buy bus till our home !!
    What a story isn't it…

Clerics should preach him not to repeat the same again. All the muslim organizations should help him financially to setup self employment for his survival.
