Mumbai, Jun 26: The Bombay High Court on Monday confirmed the death sentence of Ajit Singh Gujral, who was convicted of killing his wife, son and two daughters.
The court has, however, stayed the order for a week, to allow him to file appeal in the Supreme Court.
Gujral, a resident of Sher-e-Punjab colony in suburban Andheri in Mumbai, was accused of murdering his wife Kamaljeet, son Amandeep and daughters Niti and Taniya by setting them afire on April 10, 2003.
According to prosecution case, he was knee-deep in debt, which led to frequent quarrels between him and the rest of the family.
After the gruesome killings, he fled the city, but the police nabbed him in Ajmer, Rajasthan.
Prosecution argued that this was a ‘rarest of the rare' case, qualifying for the capital punishment.
