Udupi: Bride-to-be commits suicide at Kolambe

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (UM)

Udupi, May 7: A soon-to-be-married woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself late night on Tuesday May 6 at Kolambe here. The incident came to light on Wednesday May 7 morning.

The deceased, Prajna (29), was the daughter of the late Alevoor Prabhakar Acharya.

Sources said that her marriage had been fixed with a man working and residing in the US. Their engagement ceremony had been conducted by their families without his presence, it is said.

Police sources said that a death note had been found, but details are yet to be divulged. Hence, the exact reason for the suicide is not yet known.

Prajna's father Alevoor Prabhakar Acharya was killed in a shootout in 2005 outside his Mangala Jewellers near city bus stand.

The body was shifted to the mortuary.

Udupi town police arrived at the spot and investigations are on.

Please all, please do not cast any aspersions on the boy, as we know him for long and it is absolutely inconceivable that that boy could have triggered this tragedy. We know the boy, he comes from a good family and was really happy to be married to Prajna... we cannot think of any reason why she committed suicide and not left any note to clear the name of her own family and that of the boy! It's simply sad, of what happened and let the law take its own course and let's not speculate.

I agree with Rita this is the first time I hear the engagement was done in the absence of the groom if groom was really interested he would have attended the ceremony seems this was forced by both parents.

Sad ,a Young educated soon to be a bride ended life by suicide. There must have a strong reason behind this.Dont think because of her fathers Background.I think is because she had telephoned with her would be first then committed suicide after Telefone, the groom told her something that disturbed and took this terrible step.who knows he might have rejected?she had the hopes on him and he had other plans?God knows.we will know better after some days.may her Soul rest in peace and her Family strength to bear the pain.Anyway an engagement without the groom is very strange. That too in this Computer Age.We have to ask the Boy is really existing?or some Gold and dowry to put in?

From the article it looks like APA ('s)who was shot in 2005, body is now taken to the mortuary.
Looks like a 'tragedy prone family'.
What is this 'engagement' without 'boy' being there? In this age?
    Thinks this 'holds the key'.....
